Staff Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY: Supports the Organization and the Finance Department by performing general accounting, with a focus on grant reporting and payroll. Prepare grant reporting to satisfy grantor and/or state, federal requirements. Perform other general accounting duties as required.

Accountable and responsible for the following results:
  • Assist with preparation and submission of monthly, quarterly and annual grant reports and grant budgets. Prepare payment requests for state and other grantors as required and ensure compliance with Federal and State requirements such as OMB A-133.
  • Assist with preparation of grant reporting documentation, including grant calendar, grants receivable spreadsheet, summary of all grants, and grant reporting documentation. Work with program managers and directors to maintain and enhance capturing accurate records of grant expenses and payroll.
  • Provide back-up support to Payroll Associate, completing full processing of biweekly payroll at least once per quarter, and provide back-up to new hire Orientation training on time entry. Assist in Payroll Verifications, payroll reporting, payroll reconciliations, and payroll processing documentation.
  • Process and/or enter all journal entries for daily bank ACH transactions.
  • Assist in research for special projects, accounting spread sheets, gathering files or other data, and compiling statistics or reports. Provide support for documentation and updates to Finance procedure documentation and annual budget preparation.
  • Provide assistance to the accounting department as needed, including periodic banking, form/schedule updates, general accounting tasks such as account reconciliations, preparation/ and or posting of journal entries, and various year end analysis and reconciliations.
  • Provide backup support to finance team members as needed
  • Attend training sessions, workshops, seminars as requested by supervisor, or as needed for professional development, or as required for accreditation or licensing.
  • Assist with other accounting projects and assignments as may be assigned.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting and 1-3 years of related experience in accounting.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft 365
  • Experience using accounting and budget software applications.
  • High degree of organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve.
