Job Description Summary: As a Trade Compliance Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring that our company adheres to all regulations and laws governing international trade. This role reports into Legal Services but you will work closely with various departments to implement and maintain compliance programs, assess risks, and develop strategies to mitigate potential issues. Your role is crucial in maintaining the integrity of our company's international trade operations while facilitating smooth transactions across borders. Key Responsibilities: Export/Import Management: Manage day-to-day export, import and customs activities, including AES filings, HTS determinations, foreign product classifications, tariff analysis, sanctions screenings, and freight forwarder interactions relative to export and import. Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of international trade laws, regulations, and sanctions imposed by relevant authorities such as the Department of Commerce, Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and other regulatory bodies. Interpret and communicate changes in regulations to relevant stakeholders within the organization. Policy Development: Develop, augment, and implement trade compliance policies, procedures, and guidelines with direction from Legal Services Department to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and company objectives. Regularly review and update policies to reflect changes in regulations or business practices. Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential areas of non-compliance or exposure to trade-related risks. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure adherence to compliance standards. Documentation and Record Keeping: Oversee the creation, maintenance, and management of trade-related documentation, including import licenses, permits, declarations, and certifications. Ensure that all documentation is accurate, complete, and accessible for audit purposes. Training and Education: Provide training and education to employees involved in international trade activities to enhance awareness of compliance requirements and best practices. Develop training materials and conduct regular workshops to promote a culture of compliance within the organization. Audits and Monitoring: Perform periodic audits and assessments of trade compliance activities to verify adherence to established policies and procedures. Monitor trade transactions and activities to identify any potential violations or irregularities and take appropriate corrective actions. Trade Classification: Determine the proper classification of products according to relevant tariff schedules, export control classifications, and other trade regulations. Coordinate with product teams and external consultants to ensure accurate classification and documentation. Trade Agreements and Programs: Evaluate eligibility and participate in preferential trade agreements, free trade agreements, and other trade programs to optimize duty savings, duty drawbacks, and benefits for the company. Manage documentation and compliance requirements associated with these agreements. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in International Business, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field. Minimum of 7 years of experience in trade compliance, customs compliance, or related field. In-depth knowledge of international trade regulations, including import/export controls, customs procedures, sanctions, and trade agreements. Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and mitigate risks effectively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and communicate complex regulatory requirements effectively. Proficiency in trade compliance software and tools. Relevant certifications such as Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified Export Compliance Officer (CECO) preferred.
