Main Responsibilities: Under limited supervision, develop industrial pretreatment programs and industrial discharge limits, as defined by 40 CFR 403, for municipal clients throughout the country. Conduct studies, develop technical documentation, and provide procedures adequate to protect Publicly Owned Treatment Works. Consult with POTWs during the development of Control Mechanisms and assist in the promulgation of local regulatory authority. Review draft designs and reports for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Ensure that firm policies and practices are followed on all studies and designs. Perform site evaluations, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with client and local needs. Contribute to the firm's Technical Knowledge Management by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc. Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs). Review draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local, and federal regulations and best practices. Meet with current and potential clients to review their current and future design needs. Attend conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's technical prowess in the industry and advance one’s own network and knowledge. This position is specifically looking for an individual with strong communication skills who can provide technical guidance and training to more junior staff. This position will require an individual who can utilize their experience and skills to lead tasks on water and/or wastewater treatment projects, particularly with strong experience working with communities assessing and developing industrial pretreatment programs and limits. A critical need of this role is also the desire to learn and grow with the firm. CDM Smith believes strongly in helping develop the best and brightest engineers and scientists. Job Title: Environmental Engineer Group: WSO Employment Type: Regular Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline. Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer). 5 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Skills and Abilities: Expert Knowledge of computer-assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Expert Knowledge of engineering principles of design. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
