Position Overview

As an entry-level Environmental Field Technician at SCS Engineers, you will acquire foundational knowledge of the terminology, procedures, and tools utilized in the operation, upkeep, and monitoring of various environmental control systems. You will also learn essential health and safety protocols. Your responsibilities will be straightforward, providing a solid base for your professional development. You will report to a senior supervisor, such as a Project Superintendent or Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a thorough understanding of and adhere to SCS policies and procedures, focusing on:
    • The SCS Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) related to our Health & Safety program.
    • The SCS Quality Management System concerning the quality of our services.
    • The SCS Standards of Business Conduct and Ethics guiding our behavior as employee owners.
  • Concentrate on mastering the fundamentals of operating, monitoring, and maintaining various environmental systems.
  • Collaborate with senior staff in planning and executing assigned tasks, including daily Crew Activity Plans (CAP), monitoring, and adjusting environmental control system components.
  • Under the guidance of senior staff, perform basic maintenance and repairs on environmental control system components.
  • Become adept at conducting field observations and documenting these actions through field notes and daily logs, which will assist in preparing client communications.
  • Through training, gain basic proficiency in using field instruments to measure necessary environmental control system data, including calibration and maintenance of these instruments.
  • Participate in preliminary data reviews with supervisors to understand the fundamentals of interpreting field data.
  • Work alongside senior staff to make operational adjustments to environmental control system components based on preliminary data reviews.
  • Receive training on the appropriate tools, equipment, and materials required for maintaining and repairing environmental control system components.
  • Assist other team members with the removal of landfill liquid pumps as needed.
Qualifications
  • No prior experience is necessary; however, experience in mechanical, construction, environmental, or solid waste fields is preferred.
  • Willingness to complete a 40-Hour HAZWOPER Course, with OSHA 29 CFR preferred (training will be provided if not current).
  • Basic proficiency in using various technology, including Smartphones, Tablets, and Microsoft Office Programs (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
  • Must meet physical requirements and pass a human performance evaluation (HPE), which includes driving, walking inspections, lifting and carrying equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), hand excavation, climbing ladders, operating manlifts, and working under varying weather conditions.

The compensation for this position ranges from $20/hr to $23/hr, depending on experience and location, excluding potential bonuses or participation in our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
