They have refineries located across California, Delaware, Louisiana, New Jersey, and Ohio.

Job Summary The Corrosion and Materials Specialist supports various business teams, including Fixed Equipment, Inspections, Capital Projects, and Turnaround Departments. This role involves applying knowledge of damage mechanisms and appropriate materials selection to manage continuous improvement efforts, repairs, capital projects, and inspection findings. The Corrosion and Materials Specialist is responsible for implementing and maintaining Corrosion Control Documents (CCDs) and Integrity Operating Windows (IOWs), supporting the site Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) program, and leading corrosion-related special-emphasis programs. The role also includes setting long-term corrosion and metallurgical engineering goals, evaluating complex technical assessments, and developing structured approaches to ensure asset integrity and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and lead the Corrosion and Materials Engineering strategic roadmap to ensure equipment/asset integrity, code and regulatory compliance, and reliability. Serve as the site Subject Matter Expert (SME) in corrosion control, metallurgical enhancements, welding/brazing, coatings, and chemical treatment/cleaning. Develop and update unit Corrosion Control Documents (CCDs), Corrosion Loop and Damage Mechanism Diagrams, and Integrity Operation Windows (IOWs). Ensure successful rollout and implementation in collaboration with stakeholders. Mentor and lead teams in Inspection, Fixed Equipment, Operations, and Technical Services in the development and validation of CCDs, IOWs, and Damage Mechanism Reviews. Manage budgets and schedules for expense and capital projects. Provide technical support to solve complex welding, chemical cleaning/treatment, metallurgical, and corrosion-related challenges. Review and recommend immediate, temporary, and permanent repairs for identified anomalies or deficiencies, including upgrade/replacement or corrosion mitigation requirements. Monitor chemical treatment programs and recommend optimizations for cost-effective technical compatibility. Collaborate with key stakeholders to support long-term equipment reliability initiatives and fitness-for-service evaluations of assets. Perform technical and economic analysis to justify engineering improvements and recommended priorities. Develop and implement corrosion control strategies for refinery units and equipment, including appropriate corrective actions to address corrosion and metallurgy challenges. Support the development, management, and implementation of risk-based inspection strategies for equipment assets, including piping, vessels, reactors, fired heaters, boilers, and other processing equipment. Develop and report site-specific reliability and corrosion-related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Participate in critical site evaluations, such as Process Hazard Analyses (HAZOPs) and Process Safety Management (PSM) reviews. Develop and review engineering standards and practices. Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis initiatives as an SME. Support the Turnaround organization during both planned and unplanned outages and shutdowns as required. Serve as a safety champion throughout the refinery complex, ensuring full compliance with safety requirements, supporting safe work practices, and participating in all safety-related activities. Perform other tasks and projects as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Chemical Engineering. 8+ years' experience in a refinery or petrochemical facility with onsite plant experience. Strong expertise in petrochemical engineering. Candidates must have experience specific to refinery or petrochemical plant environments, not in upstream (exploration and production) or downstream (distribution and marketing) sectors. Familiarity with design, construction, and inspection codes/standards: API 510, API 570, API 653, API 571, API 574, ASME Section I, ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, NBIC, NACE, and AWS. Ability to handle multiple tasks, lead investigations, and prioritize work schedules. Professional Engineering license or AMPP/API certification preferred. Experience with SAP preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
