Compliance Specialist

The Compliance Coordinator assists the Compliance Officer and Compliance Manager with licensing duties and audits. The Compliance Specialist ensures licensing submissions are executed accurately in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations under the guidance of the Compliance Manager and Compliance Officer. The Compliance Specialist ensures records are maintained in compliance with company requirements and submissions occur within specified deadlines.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs internal audits in coordination with departmental schedule and provides feedback on internally identified issues/results.
  • Timely responds to external (payor) audits and obtains supporting documentation.
  • Processes Medicare 855s enrollment applications, updates, revalidations, and voluntary deactivations.
  • Maintains regulatory business information such as: ownership, officers, EIN, Medicare, and NPI information.
  • Applies for new business licenses, certifications, and registrations as required.
  • Processes surety bond applications and renewals.
  • Processes insurance certificate holder requests.
  • Participates in Medicare Competitive Bidding related activities.
  • Tracks licensure expiry dates and professional's credentials.
  • Creates and utilizes the Compliance Dept. database, Excel databases, and other reports to track compliance.
  • Participates in compliance training including orientation and annual employee training.
  • Assists with Patient Privacy (HIPAA)-related matters, as needed.
  • Supports the Compliance Team with a variety of projects as needed.
  • Timely completes all mandated compliance training and educational programs as required.
  • Maintains compliance with federal healthcare regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain HIPAA confidentiality.
  • Employee has an individual responsibility for knowledge of and compliance with laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Compliance is a condition of employment and is considered an element of job performance.
  • Maintains working knowledge of licensing requirements at the local, state, and federal level.
  • Oversees renewal of business licenses, certifications, and registrations as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of CMS Quality Standards, DMEPOS Supplier Standards and Accreditation Standards.
  • Knowledge of PECOS Enrollment System.
  • Confident and clear communication (within and outside the company) to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong prioritizing and multi-tasking capabilities including the ability to manage multiple priorities, prioritize appropriately, and meet stringent deadlines.
  • Outstanding organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and follow through.
  • Anticipation of potential issues and recommends potential solutions and/or alternatives.
  • Initiative and sound judgment to determine when to escalate sensitive matters or issues of a critical natural needing more immediate or specialized attention.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality related to extremely sensitive matters and function within HIPAA guidelines.
  • Experience and skills with Outlook, Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and various other tools as needed.
  • Ability to be flexible, manage and deal with change, and handle challenges and pressure with a positive attitude.
MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • GED or high school education required.
  • Associates Degree or Bachelor's Degree at an accredited institution preferred.
  • Medical experience or experience with accreditation a plus.
  • Experience with healthcare-related compliance requirements a plus.
  • Demonstrate aptitude in Access, Excel and Word.
