Job Overview:

The Safety Compliance Specialist is responsible for overseeing OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping, along with maintaining records for mandatory training and inspections. This role involves leading the development and execution of comprehensive occupational safety, health, and environmental programs to ensure optimal safety standards for all personnel. The position requires adherence to all relevant federal and state health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Act as a subject matter expert for operational teams, staying informed about regulatory changes. Ensure adherence to all OSHA-required documentation, including training materials, support documents, and audit programs. Assess and identify hazardous conditions in the workplace, conducting thorough evaluations of occupational health and safety standards. Carry out on-site inspections to audit safety practices and provide guidance on compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Develop and implement strategies for identified hazards, measuring the effectiveness of safety controls and recommending improvements to reduce workplace incidents. Create specialized educational materials and conduct training sessions to communicate safety protocols. Facilitate new employee orientation regarding occupational safety and health practices. Lead the Safety Committee and organize monthly meetings. Analyze and report on accident statistics, providing actionable recommendations to mitigate risks. Maintain OSHA logs and complete necessary annual reporting. Develop and maintain emergency response plans, serving as the Emergency Response Coordinator for the facility. Advocate for sustainability initiatives, designing and executing strategic plans to enhance organizational sustainability efforts. Participate in reviews of new products and processes, conducting hazard analyses and implementing engineering controls to minimize safety risks. Maintain updated safety data sheets and conduct annual chemical inventories. Promote safety awareness through internal communications and targeted training programs. Distribute monthly safety materials to management. Advise management on regulatory updates to ensure compliance within the organization. Oversee environmental compliance initiatives related to hazardous waste management, air quality, and community safety programs. Manage waste disposal documentation and ensure adherence to reporting requirements. Perform additional duties as assigned that align with the overall responsibilities of this role.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree or a combination of six years of relevant experience and training. A minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing safety environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Proficient in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Detail-oriented with a strategic mindset. Adaptable to change and capable of working independently. Ability to lead through influence rather than direct authority.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this position require regular sitting, speaking, and hearing. Employees must be able to stand, walk, use hands for handling tasks, and reach with arms. The ability to lift up to 25 pounds is necessary. Specific vision abilities required include the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

The work environment is primarily indoors, with occasional exposure to varying temperatures and conditions. Employees may encounter moving mechanical parts, hazardous chemicals, and dust. Preparedness for emergency situations is essential, and the noise level is typically moderate.
