College Unbound (CU) is an accredited and state approved college whose mission is to reinvent the higher education experience for underrepresented returning adult learners. Through rigorous and engaged scholarship, College Unbound integrates students own purposes for learning with the needs of their workplaces and communities, improving the lives of the students and the lives of those they touch. Started in RI, College Unbound now supports students across multiple states and looks to continue to develop an infrastructure to support this developing model.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Instructional Faculty Development & Innovation, the Learning Systems Specialist manages, maintains, and supports our Moodle-based LMS, as well as collaborates with faculty, students, and staff to design, implement, and evaluate effective and accessible instructional technologies and design. The Learning Systems Specialist will play a critical role in enhancing our digital learning environment and supporting innovative teaching practices across the institution.
In addition to the job responsibilities for this position, the Learning Systems Specialist, will model the BIG 10 transformational Leadership Competencies and as a member of the Lifelong Learning team will commit to the following guiding principles:

- Administer and maintain the Moodle LMS, including system updates, user management, plugins, course creation, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to design, develop, and implement instructional materials and technology solutions that support and enhance teaching and learning.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops for students, faculty and staff on effective use of the LMS and other instructional technologies.
- Provide instructional design support to faculty in synchronous and asynchronous online courses.
- Provide technical support and assistance to faculty, staff, and students in the use of the LMS and instructional technologies.
- Develop and maintain documentation, processes, and support resources related to the LMS and instructional technologies.
- Evaluate, recommend, pilot, and implement new instructional technologies and tools that align with the organization's goals and objectives.
- Monitor and analyze LMS usage and performance data to identify trends, inform decision-making, and ensure continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with other parts of the organization to ensure a seamless user experience and to address any issues that arise.
- Stay current with emerging trends and best practices in instructional technology and LMS administration.
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, information technology or a related field; or comparable experience to demonstrate proficiency in educational technology and additionally listed skills
- 1 - 3 years or more of working on the back-end of an LMS and managing an LMS.
- Intermediate experience in using and supporting various instructional technologies and tools, such as, multimedia authoring tools, web conferencing platforms, and content management systems.
- Beginner to intermediate knowledge of instructional design principles and learning theories.
- Beginner to intermediate knowledge of universal design for learning, accessibility and usability standards in digital learning environments.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Experience working with diverse adult populations
- Willingness to ask for help and guidance when needed.
- Familiarity and experience with badging, badge systems or other forms of micro-credentialing.
- Be geographically close to Providence, RI or Philadelphia, PA for (estimated 50%) hybrid work.
- Experience in higher education or training settings in other contexts.
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for web-based content creation.
- Familiarity with SCORM, xAPI, or other eLearning standards.
- Experience with other LMS platforms, such as Canvas, Blackboard, or Brightspace.
- Certifications in instructional design, eLearning development, or related areas.
