As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers and technicians, you will oversee the manufacturing of composite flight hardware for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of developing the next generation launch and space vehicle manufacturing facility on Florida's Space Coast at our Orbital Launch Site Manufacturing Complex. We are in search of a Vehicle Manager III for our composites production functions. This Vehicle Manager will oversee the manufacturing of composite flight hardware to develop and implement processes, problem-solve, and produce large composite launch structures through layup, curing, inspection, trimming, drilling, repair, and integration, in our highly-automated production line. You will support all aspects of development, validation, and production of composite launch vehicle components. We put a strong emphasis on hands-on technical ability, problem-solving, creative implementation of new products, and positive engagement with the overall Blue Origin team.

Responsibilities:

  • Guides a team of manufacturing engineers, supervisors, and technicians in composite layup, curing, inspection, trimming, drilling, repair, integration, and other processes. Supports development and improvement of such processes.
  • Assist the Director in building and managing the Composites Production team, including developing resource plans, job descriptions, conducting interviews, making hiring recommendations, assigning tasks, and assisting in performance reviews.
  • Oversee operation, maintenance, and installation of large specialized equipment such as robotic layup, inspection, trim and drill equipment, integration tools, stands, and rolling stock
  • Lead operations employing precision measuring tools, and heavy machinery such as forklifts and cranes.
  • Assist with transitioning product from engineering development to production.
  • Direct setup and establishment of work areas for production
  • Ensure adherence to equipment requirements and work orders to be followed in fabrication of parts using materials such as epoxy prepregs, adhesives, cores, machined fittings, and like materials.
  • Contribute to and ensure process, safety, and work instruction continuous improvement.
  • Works on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions.
  • Interface with area leadership to prioritize work based on production schedule and organizational goals.
  • Ensure product quality and conformance to engineering specifications.
  • Develop and implement cost reductions processes and efficiency improvement measures.
  • Implement and refine new manufacturing processes.
  • Work with engineering to document and standardize production processes.
  • Collaborate with engineering to develop production ready manufacturing approach.
  • Review work instructions and provide recommended changes where necessary.
  • Forecasting and developing recovery plans for constraints critical to vehicle delivery schedule.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 10+ years of experience in aerospace manufacturing, integration, or other relevant field
  • Expertise in one or more of the following: layup, curing, inspection, trimming, drilling, repair, assembly and integration, and production control systems.
  • Ability to work respectfully and cooperatively with diverse teams in a dynamic environment displaying strong work ethic with close attention to detail
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures.
  • Basic computer skills such as Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to climb ladders/stairs and work in small restricted areas
  • Perform repetitive work including lifting of heavy items, >50lbs
  • Intense curiosity for understanding the details of our business, and a continuous improvement mindset. Our job is never complete; we are always optimizing.
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills and a proven ability to drive complex projects with minimal oversight
  • Work off-shift, extended hours, overtime, and weekends if/when necessary
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
