Role Overview: This position plays a critical role in the development and operational support of New Glenn, a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed for routine missions to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar space, and beyond. The first stage of this vehicle is fully reusable and has been engineered from the outset to accommodate human spaceflight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design, analysis, and testing of primary and secondary composite structures.
  • Establish criteria for inspection and acceptance of composite materials.
  • Conduct research, develop innovative concepts, and perform trade studies.
  • Create comprehensive test plans, specifications, and documentation for flight hardware development.
  • Provide technical direction for integration and refurbishment processes.
  • Support manufacturing and production activities.
  • Engage in configuration development and trade studies.
  • Participate in subsystem test planning, execution, and data analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to select materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers for aerospace hardware.
  • Develop material specifications and manage supplier relationships.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct tests while reviewing test data.
  • Contribute to the development and procurement of new equipment and tooling.
  • Maintain and report on project schedules, budgets, and technical statuses.
  • Mentor and provide technical assistance to fellow engineers.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost efficiencies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Material Science, Chemical, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 8 years of experience with aircraft, marine, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures.
  • Proficient in the fabrication and inspection of composite primary structures for aerospace applications.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard mechanical and physical property testing methods for structural composite materials.
  • Willingness to travel for development and testing at various sites.
  • Ability to build trust and maintain professional relationships while fostering an inclusive culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or legally admitted refugee/asylee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Material Science, Chemical, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in planning and executing material test campaigns.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) methods in design, analysis, and testing.
  • Experience in designing and characterizing aerospace composite structures for environmental exposure.
  • Familiarity with the effects of re-entry heating on composite structures and thermal protection systems.
  • Experience with environmental sealing processes for composite structures.
  • Knowledge of corrosion and refurbishment requirements for composite materials.
  • Experience with cryogenic composite structures.
