RESEARCH ENGINEER - SR. RESEARCH ENGINEER - Mechanical Sustainment Engineer 16-01379 Who We Are: The Mechanical Systems Section in the Strategic Aerospace Department provides electromechanical engineering support for several US Air Force Global Strike Command and Department of Defense programs. We are a multidisciplinary team of engineers that enjoy supporting the warfighter. We provide engineering services to projects involving the design, development and maintenance of hardware and software systems for the strategic aerospace community, including aircraft and ground support equipment ranging from microcircuits to major subsystems. Objectives of this Role: Assist SwRI Field Engineers and the 423rd Supply Chain Management Squadron (SCMS) with fleet sustainment engineering tasks for all platforms managed at Hill AFB. Provide dedicated, responsive, and unbiased mechanical engineering expertise and guidance to the 423rd SCMS to enable mission readiness for all platforms supported at Hill AFB. Assist SwRI Field Engineers and USAF clients with access to SwRI advanced research and subject matter expertise in many areas, including legacy aircraft structures, avionics, pneumatic/hydraulic actuation systems, electromechanical control systems. Daily and Monthly Responsibilities: Assist SwRI Field Engineers and the 423rd SCMS with mechanical engineering troubleshooting activities at all shops and warehouses located throughout Hill AFB. Support SwRI Field Engineers and the 423rd SCMS with mechanical engineering related investigations for all platforms managed at Hill AFB. Provide mechanical engineering subject matter expert (SME) reviews for technical data and engineering artifacts independent from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Analyze and evaluate technical approaches for the 423rd SCMS including but not limited to mechanical requirements, legacy aircraft structures, avionics, pneumatic/hydraulic actuation systems, thermal management systems, and electromechanical control systems. Participate virtually in technical approach meetings to address mechanical engineering related matters in support of the 423rd SCMS. Requirements: Requires a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering. 5-8 years: Experience developing, analyzing, and validating/verifying mechanical requirements for military aerospace systems. 5-8 years: Experience designing mechanical subsystems for military aircraft, including: aircraft structures and fasteners, avionics, pneumatic/hydraulic actuators, thermal-fluid cooling equipment. Experience using FEA/CFD software for stress and heat transfer analyses. 5-8 years: Experience interpreting mechanical manufacturing and interface data, including: machining/fabrication drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, pneumatic/hydraulic schematics. Experience creating 3D/2D CAD design packages using Solidworks (preferred) and/or other CAD software. 5-8 years: Experience performing independent project management activities including but not limited to: project scheduling, facilitating part sourcing, coordinating inputs from subject matter experts (SMEs), communicating project status to stakeholders, technical report writing. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
