Westminster University Program Director, Arts Education Program

POSITION SUMMARY: The Arts Education Program Director provides leadership and development of arts teacher education programming through undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs at Westminster University. Additionally, the Director will support the statewide Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program, which provides arts-integrated instruction to elementary students in over 400 Utah elementary schools in 36 districts, serving over 300,000 students. The infrastructure for support of these programs will include the design and implementation of professional development and continuing education courses tailored to meet specific arts endorsement needs across the state of Utah. The collaborative aspect of this position includes partnering with the Utah State Board of Education and private foundations, such as Art Works for Kids to help oversee arts education advocacy and implementation efforts. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Work with the Arts Education Professor to design, implement, and facilitate professional development courses in school districts statewide. Mentor BTS Arts Teachers in the Westminster Continuing Education Cohort including on-site visits, email correspondences, and arts-integration curriculum support. Supervise MATArts graduate students in both methods and student teaching placements. Facilitate AED 01 and AED 02 courses in person, including set-up, acquiring needed materials, practitioner assistance, and room recovery. Attend and assist in facilitating the biennial AED 03 ArtsConnect International trips as availability allows. Assist in the building of curriculum and grading for AED 01 – 09 courses as needed on Canvas. Advocate for the MAT Arts and the BTS Arts Programs through quarterly informative open houses, one-on-one meetings with pre-service and in-service teachers, and by participating as a stakeholder in statewide advocacy partnership programs. Manage approved social media accounts for arts education programming, including Sorenson Education Outreach, ArtsBridge, ArtsConnect, and

undergraduate/graduate

arts education programming. Oversee website updates through IS requests including workshop additions, CEU course dates/locations, and programmatic verbiage changes. Generate marketing strategies through collaborative efforts for arts education programming at Westminster and through the USBE BTS Arts. Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and state officials to broaden the scope of the BTS Arts in Utah. Provide statewide support for the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program through sub-committee participation. Provide supplemental support specifically for the collaborations with private partnerships, including Art Works For Kids to meet the overall needs of the growing BTS Arts programming in new schools Vet and approve practitioner mentors for AED 05 Directed Study and submit IC proposals for new mentors. Facilitate practitioner mentorship and directed study student partnerships for AED 05, including goal-setting to meet art-specific endorsement needs and project completion. Update and maintain the statewide databases, including both the BTS Arts parent and community contact list as well as the PTA President list Assist with BTS Arts presentations and preparation of materials for on-site school visits, principal onboarding, and community collaborations. Provide supportive presence at school arts events and informances. Maintain the photo journal for the MATArts and BTS Arts Activities at Westminster arts education functions and across the state. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in a Teacher Education licensure area. Demonstrated leadership ability. Four or more years of K-12 teaching experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Extensive experience in teaching at least one art form: Dance, Drama, Music, and/or Visual Arts. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data. Demonstrated knowledge and use of database(s). Strong communication skills and proven ability in written communication (e.g., technical reports, handbooks, and procedure manuals). Experience with diverse populations, communication technologies, relational databases, and a global understanding are preferred. Strong speaking, presentation, collaborative, and group facilitation skills. Demonstrated experience in a university setting or teacher education program preferred.
