As the Assistant Director for the Arts Council, you will report directly to the Arts Division Director.

About the Position:

In this role you will be a major contributor to a strong day-to-day leadership presence for program managers to accomplish the Arts Division/Salt Lake City Arts Council’s Strategic Plan, as well as direct staff activities, and coordinate with the Board. This role includes developing internal organizational processes, systems and infrastructure, and special projects with the goal of supporting organizational growth. In addition, responsibilities include multiple and varied operational, finance, grants writing and development, contract management, and administrative responsibilities in a dynamic environment with overlapping and changing priorities.

This is a professional position that requires strong leadership skills, passion for the arts, dedication to inclusivity, and the ability to take direction while simultaneously being collaborative and pro-active.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Art, Arts Administration or a closely related field plus four years' professional experience. Experience and education may be substituted, one for the other on a year-for-year basis. Additionally, we are looking for a candidate with proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role.

About the Team:

The Arts Council Team is a collaborative, exciting place to work. This team is part of the Economic Development Department. There is 1 Arts Division Director, 1 vacant Assistant Director, 3 Program Managers, 3 Program Coordinators, and 2 Office Facilitators.

Work Schedule:

This position typically works a hybrid Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule and occasionally requires evening and weekend hours. A hybrid schedule allows you to split your time between working from home and working in the office. This may change at any time.

Position Salary Range:

$70,137.60 to $121,388.80 annually. The established market rate for this position is $95,763.20/yr. Pay will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for supervising approximately 5-7 program managers and minimal part-time staff as direct reports in continual implementation of strategic plan. This includes implementation of project management and employee evaluation methodologies.Participates in fundraising activities, including organizing events and developing donor relations with the Arts Division Director and Community Investment and Development Manager. Supports Board of Directors and various committees in vision and development, policies, goals, and implementation of strategic plan and compliance with bylaws.Assist in preparing and managing budgets for arts programs and operations. Tracks expenses, and ensures programs stay within budget; prepares financial reports for the Arts Division Director and Board of Directors.Responsible for Operational and Human Resources support such as recruitment, benefits support; administrative support to the Arts Division Director; compliance with reporting and legal and regulatory policies.Assists in the preparation of, adherence to, and monitoring of policies and practices for the Arts Council.Represents the Arts Council in a professional capacity at the local, state, regional and national level in settings that require public speaking and presentations.Assist in developing policies and strategic plans that support the mission of the Arts Council; Stay informed about trends and issues in the arts sector and advise on their potential impact; Identify opportunities for growth and development of the Council’s programs and initiatives.Provides information and technical assistance, as requested, to artists, arts organizations and the public.Conducts research.Facilitates special projects related to industry needs development in collaboration with other Departments and external partner stakeholders.Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Art, Arts Administration or a closely related field plus four years' professional experience. Experience and education may be substituted, one for the other on a year-for-year basis.Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal (including public speaking).Proficiency in budgeting, financial management, & organizational operations.Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including artists, donors, community members, and government officials.Proficiency in the use of personal computer, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google & basic Adobe products.Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.

Desired Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Art, Arts Education (or Administration), Public Administration, or a related field.High level of creativity and passion for the arts.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically.Experience in grant making and fund raising.Knowledge of and commitment to serving diverse communities.Experience working in non-profit settings.

Working Conditions:

Generally comfortable working conditions. Light physical effort. May occasionally handle light weights. Intermittent standing, sitting and walking.Exposure to stress as a result of human behavior and multiple deadlines.May require some travel or unconventional working hours including evenings and weekends
