Job Description:

The Product Engineer (PE) is responsible for working with both the Sourcing Team, the Program Management Team & Sales Teams throughout the various stages of new product development. Specifically looking for someone with a background in Product Development for Cutting & Abrasive Technologies. Once an opportunity has been identified, the PE will work with the project team to identify and collect the product specifications, performance specifications necessary to generate the request for quote (RFQ). Once quotes have been collected, the PE will then work with the project team to output the initial financial analysis to determine the viability of the project. If it is then confirmed that the project is viable, the PE then work with the corresponding Program Manager (PM) for the corresponding segment or segments that the new item will be commercialized within to identify the key tasks required, develop a timeline, and input all of the necessary product information into the New Item Development (NID) template, as well as, keeping the project team informed via our internal web-based project management software (Wrike). A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected and required. Experience in and knowledge of the product categories that the PE will be assigned to is also considered essential.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, create and enhance abrasive products through research, design and testing
  • Conduct through analysis and testing of products to ensure high quality and functionality
  • Understand how products are used in market by product end users
  • Ability to plan for and resolve unexpected delays, production issues, and schedule recovery options
  • Provides project direction
  • Establish new product timelines
  • Provides technical support and new product training to internal teams
  • Participates in proposal development
  • Communicate to stakeholders and ensure project success
  • Performs functionality tests and develops testing and quality standards
  • Works with vendors to develop tool concepts
  • Work with sales and program managers to develop marketing concepts and packaging solutions
  • Troubleshoot products and work with customer service team to support customers

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Engineering degree preferred
  • Product Development and Management experience welcomed
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, CAD and other related software products
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Critical thinking skills are a must
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Leadership and coaching skills are required
  • High level of organizational skills
  • Able to multi-task
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Must work well independently and on a team
  • International and domestic travel experience required
