To accomplish the Clerk's Office core mission of serving the citizens of Collier County, the Finance Division is responsible for providing clear, concise, and transparent information regarding the revenue and spending of the County. The Division establishes and maintains internal controls to provide reasonable assurance regarding the safeguarding of county assets against loss from unauthorized use or disposition, while vetting the reliability of financial records. Reliable financial records are essential in the preparation of financial statements and to maintain accountability of county assets. The critical work of safeguarding tax-payers funds is performed by a group of highly skilled finance and accounting professionals.
The
Senior Accountant
will perform professional accounting work in the preparation, maintenance and review of financial records and reports, analyzes systems and procedures, and recommends modifications and improvements to the accounting system. Work is performed under the general direction of the General Accounting Manager. Incumbents perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties including the supervision and/or training of assigned professional and/or support staff, the resolution of complex accounting issues and acting in the absence of the immediate supervisor. This position will perform essential work for the Finance Division such as:
Develop and modify accounting procedures, policies and systems in order to meet changing requirements. Monitor and control contracts and agreements.
Study present accounting methods and practices to assure conformance with policies and procedures established a standard operating policy.
Responsible for balancing and closing accounts for year-end preparation of county wide annual financial statements.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; supplemented by three years professional experience in governmental accounting; equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job may be substituted for the years of experience.
