The HR Generalist for Recruitment, Student Employment and Employee Engagement provides varied support for the Office of Human Resources, with a primary focus on administering on-campus student work, beginning with post-offer processing, payroll processing, and monitoring of the Federal Work Study process. Additionally, the role supports staff and faculty recruitment and onboarding, and employee engagement initiatives. This position will be expected to provide exceptional customer service to current and prospective employees of the College and to maintain excellent attention to detail while working on a variety of projects.

Essential Functions:

Recruitment and Onboarding Support (30%)
  • Support recruitment efforts for open staff positions, including new requisition and offer processing.
  • Assist in sourcing and recruiting qualified candidates for open positions.
  • Manage staff and faculty onboarding process, including processing background checks, tracking/gathering new hire paperwork (i.e. transcripts, licensure verification), and coordinating first day orientation meetings.
  • Partner with the payroll department to ensure proper new employee compensation and benefits are correctly established in the payroll system.
  • Manage volunteer paperwork and processing.
  • Complete 45-Day New Hire Check In with each new hire.
Student Employment Support (50%)
  • Administer the HR-related operations of the on-campus student employment program, including the employment side of the Federal Work Study (FWS) financial aid program.
  • Review and approve employment offers; once signed, process the hire or personnel action.
  • Onboard newly hired students into the payroll system and/or currently employed students into their new position.
  • Process and track student stipend payments for each payroll.
  • Process bi-monthly student payrolls, which includes auditing accurate punch entry, timecard approvals, federal work study utilization, and scheduled stipend payments.
  • Administer the employment side of the Federal Work Study (FWS) program, to include:
  • Assigning FWS semester maximums for each eligible student in the payroll system
  • Monitoring utilization of student FWS each pay period
  • Transitioning students to regular work upon reaching their FWS maximum
  • Creating periodic FWS utilization reports for Student Financial Services
  • Completing annual FWS audit
  • Maintain accurate payroll system settings and employment records in HRIS
  • Monitor and address the students exceeding the 10 hour/week maximum.
  • Maintain a close partnership with the Career Readiness and Experiential Learning department to ensure an efficient and effective student employment experience.
  • Provide training, workshops, and communication materials for students and supervisors related to onboarding, time card entry, and payroll approval.
  • Respond to inquiries related to student employment, including unemployment responses, employment verifications, reports, etc.
Employee Engagement Support (20%)
  • Co-lead the Employee Appreciation Committee (EAC) by preparing meeting agendas, running the meeting, and collaborating with individual committees
  • Process nominations for Atta'way peer recognition program
  • Prepare content for monthly HR newsletter
Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in business administration required. Bachelor's degree in business administration, organizational leadership, human resources, accounting/finance, or comparable field strongly preferred. Six years of comparable work experience may be substituted in place of this degree requirement.
  • Experience with payroll processing, human resources, or office administration preferred
  • Intercultural competency; ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds
  • Strong computer skills, specifically experience working with Microsoft Excel
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn the human resources information system (HRIS) and other computer applications
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with integrity, tact, professionalism, and diplomacy
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize tasks
  • Ability to identify and implement efficient workflows
