Summary of Responsibility: Responsible for assisting in the planning, developing, organizing, implementing and directing the activity programs to ensure that the spiritual development, emotional, recreational and social needs of the residents are maintained on an individual basis. Duties: Set up and carry out activities as planned Clean Activity room between activities Go to apartments to invite residents to activities and assist in getting them back to apartments Attend Activity Planning meetings Assist volunteers with activities Assist with cleaning the bus Transportation of residents to Doctor appointments Observe residents for changes in condition and report to the Nursing Staff Continue all activities in the building Help with putting up and taking down of holiday themes Plan activities outside of facility (weekly trips) Attend all staff meetings Education and Experience: Must be able to speak, read and write in the English language. Must possess knowledge of planning activities in group settings. One (1) year experience in working with elderly desired. Previous knowledge in Activity Director job history. Should have creative aptitude for training in arts, crafts and games. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and sit. The employee must be able to lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift and transfer residents, using proper body mechanics as needed. Work Environment: The work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Subject to falls, burns from equipment, infectious diseases, substances, odors, etc., throughout the workday. Must be caring and compassionate in dealing with residents as well as staff. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and, at times, hostile people within the facility. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, employees and outside contacts. Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and government agencies and the general public. Possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.
