Summary:

Generate and interpret financial records and statements for management. Maintain general ledger as needed. Analyze financial data in order to prepare financial reports and prepare budget forecasts. Investigate budget and variance issues. Maintain records of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liability, or other financial activities within organization.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Monitors the accounting, reporting and control of financial data to ensure the accurate maintenance and reporting of expenditures in accordance with NJ TRANSIT policy and procedures, federal and state regulations, and GAAP.
  • Participates in the implementation and development of NJ TRANSIT policies and procedures in order to maintain consistency, improve methodology and efficiency of accounting operations.
  • Prepares and distributes detailed reports for all levels of management to facilitate the flow of financial information and/or resolution of problems relating to accounting.
  • Review expenditures either by request of management or predetermined guidelines established by management, to ensure that all expenses are properly ordered.
  • Performs and reviews analyses of selected general ledger accounts; identifies and resolves reconciling items and accounting issues on a timely manner.
  • Provides oversight direction to lower-level accountants in the performance of specific tasks or special projects.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or related area, or equivalent, and five years of recent experience in Accounting and Financial systems.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Through knowledge of accounting principles and concepts.
  • Experience working with grants and/or contracts accounting is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products to include Words, Excel, and Power Point.
