Division:

Operational Planning Job Type: Requisition Number:

55758 Department:

Electricity Transmission - Non-Operations Job Function:

Network Control National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is at the heart of energy in the UK. The electricity we provide gets the nation to work, powers schools and brings energy to life. Our energy network connects the nation, so it’s essential that it’s continually evolving, advancing and improving. At the heart of achieving these outcomes is the effective management of our network; the way we operate it, the way we plan it, the way we maintain it and the way we manage risk.

As Lead Network Outage Optimisation Engineer, you’ll play a key role in managing network operability and in building technical knowledge of the electricity network within the organisation, and liaising with the Electricity System Operator as a separate entity. You’ll proactively identify, manage and report on the whole network operability, availability and capability for NGET to facilitate the delivery of a safe and reliable network for our customers. Key outputs you will manage are: The outage critical path through the operational year. The programme for assets that are unavailable or depleted in order to secure these back onto the network to improve reliability. Forecast of upcoming risks and opportunities on the outage plan and mitigation of these. Support the planning team to build up their technical knowledge. Your day will vary depending on what is happening on the network and with the outage plan. Typical challenges include network faults, outage delays, project issues and customer driven changes. You will advise the team on optimal solutions for the network and for our business, liaising with customers and stakeholders to manage network risk and challenge the Electricity System Operator to negotiate network access. This role is based out of our offices in Warwick, and we’d ideally like to see you 2-3 times a week in the office. This can be combined with hybrid working from home.

What you'll need

Excellent technical understanding of power system operation combined with a detailed knowledge of asset operation. Minimum HNC combined with a substantial understanding of electrical theory, e.g. Diploma in Power System Operation & Management, or qualifications leading to corporate membership of an appropriate engineering institution, or considerable industry experience. Excellent technical understanding of the electricity industry. Ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively across businesses and with our customers. Strong negotiating and dispute resolution skills. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make complex technical decisions in limited time. Thorough understanding of obligations regarding Ofgem, BEIS and other license conditions.

What's in it for you?

A competitive salary of £58,900 to £72,000 – dependant on capability Annual Performance Based Bonus of up to 6% of your base salary 26 days annual leave The option to buy additional or sell holiday days Generous contributory pension scheme - we will double-match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. Financial support to help cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions, course fees, books, exam fees and time off for study leave – so long as it’s relevant to your role. Access to flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few. Family care benefits including a back-up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days). Access to apps which support health, fitness and wellbeing. More Information

This role closes on 14th July 2024 however we encourage candidates to submit their application as early as possible and not wait until the published closing date as this can vary. Interviews will take place w/c 29th July 2024
