Position Overview:
The City of Warwick is seeking a skilled Lead Automotive Technician to oversee the maintenance and repair of our extensive fleet of vehicles, including commercial and emergency response units. This role involves performing advanced diagnostics and repairs on various gas and diesel-powered machinery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and mentor team members within the Automotive Division.
- Conduct thorough inspections and troubleshoot vehicles to identify malfunctions and service requirements.
- Disassemble and examine components such as engines and transmissions to detect wear and damage, ensuring proper functionality and safety.
- Utilize diagnostic tools from both manufacturers and aftermarket suppliers to assess vehicle conditions.
- Repair specialized onboard systems, including ABS and fuel injection.
- Maintain and repair diesel exhaust systems and hydraulic brake systems.
- Review work orders to determine necessary parts and supplies for repairs.
- Provide guidance and training to staff on effective repair techniques and inspect complex jobs upon completion.
- Maintain accurate shop records and assign tasks based on priority and skill levels.
- Collaborate with mechanics to troubleshoot and resolve repair issues.
- Perform state safety and emissions inspections as required.
- Install and repair aftermarket equipment such as radios and emergency lighting.
- Diagnose and repair automotive air conditioning systems, holding the necessary certifications.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent vocational training in automotive repair, with 6 to 8 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in heavy-duty mechanics, diesel repair, and hydraulic systems is essential, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Must possess a valid driver's license and obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) with airbrake endorsement within one year of hire, along with a state inspection license and EPA 609 refrigerant certification.
