Associate Engineer, Electrical Planning and Design Location: Warwick, GB, CV34 6DA Division: Network Development Job Type: Requisition Number: 57120 Department: Job Function: Engineering About the job Starting date for this role is January 6, 2025 Being part of Network Development’s diverse Power System Engineering capability across 5 power system teams who: Build the network models to enable the analysis of the transmission network. Define the strategic network requirements to meet net zero, incorporating national and local stakeholder intelligence. Perform power system analysis studies to assess the compliance of the transmission network, recommending future investment need. Define and assess the power quality and dynamic performance of the transmission network. Assess the network access capacity to enable the delivery of new infrastructure projects. What you'll be doing Written as what is expected to be part of the 6-month training: Comprehensive knowledge of Power System theory Working knowledge of NGET business processes and regulatory codes Working knowledge to build mathematical models of power system networks within PowerFactory Working knowledge of PowerFactory analysis across thermal, voltage, fault-level, stability and power quality areas to conduct assessments of network capability Ability to determine network requirements and propose investments to resolve issues identified within the analysis Understanding of PSCAD and other specific analysis tools Working knowledge of the long-term and year-ahead outage planning processes within Network Development Following the completion of the training Experience of working within a professional engineering team, driving forward projects within network investment areas. Competent in presenting detailed technical information in a written and verbal way. A clear understanding of National Grid’s business objectives and its obligations to wider industry participants and regulatory authorities. In-depth understanding of power system networks and power system analysis across a broad range of areas. Good knowledge of assets and components forming the power system and how these assets combine to create an operable electricity transmission system. A good understanding of the regulatory environment, industry technical groups, customers and stakeholders. Working knowledge of the relevant industry codes and standards including SQSS, Grid Code and STC in the context of design requirements and impact on network operation. In-depth knowledge of the electricity transmission network, including the technical, commercial, and regulatory environment.
