Job Summary

Washington Adventist University is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented student to join our Facilities Services team as a Maintenance Student Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for a student to gain hands-on experience in maintenance and repair, while working in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform Maintenance and Repair Tasks: Construct, finish, install, maintain, and repair equipment, systems, and facilities related to various crafts, using power and hand tools, ladders, and other necessary equipment.
  • Assist in Building Services: Maintain shops, mechanical spaces, public, and student areas in a clean and safe manner.
  • Respond to Emergency Situations: Respond to emergency problems in the facility and make emergency repairs as needed.
  • Perform Administrative Tasks: Maintain logs, perform rounds, complete P.M. work orders, tests, and inspections.
  • Operate Equipment: Operate tractors, grounds equipment, and motor vehicles (if cleared by Transportation).
  • Assist with Grounds Maintenance: Assist in removing snow/ice from facility's grounds and maintain grounds.
  • Develop Skills and Knowledge: Work towards becoming a Maintenance Technician I through individual study and on-the-job training.
  • Adhere to Safety Practices: Abide by Department Safety Practices and follow Department Policy & Procedures.
Requirements
  • Student Status: Must be a WAU student.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to use ruler and fractions, read blueprints or model to learn work layout or plans own work layout.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and solve technical and mechanical problems.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to meet the physical demands to stand, bend, kneel, climb stairs, ladders, and equipment, and a good sense of balance to work on heights is required. Some lifting of medium and heavy materials, equipment, and tools is required.
  • Availability: The employee will frequently be called upon and must be able to work long hours under stressful conditions, including weekends and nights.
