As a Design Project Manager - Packaging, you are the engine that helps keep creative development moving forward and are responsible for planning, organizing, managing and executing projects from beginning to end. You must flex between critical/strategic thinking, the tactical delivery of tasks, and the connections between the project with company initiatives and Marketing strategies. You are a facilitator, problem-solver, and protector of the quality of the work.

You will work in tight partnership with our internal designers, Marketing Comms team and cross-functional stakeholders.

Management responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Selecting top talent and onboarding/training new employees; following, and ensuring that all employees follow, all personnel rules, policies and/or collective bargaining agreements; holding employees accountable for performing their daily duties and demonstrating appropriate workplace behaviors; providing continuous feedback, coaching, and timely effective discipline when necessary; evaluating, monitoring and providing regular feedback on employees’ performance; tracking employees’ attendance and verifying accuracy of daily timekeeping records; holding effective, regular, team meetings; demonstrating financial responsibility by protecting the employers’ financial interests; and serving as role model by demonstrating professionalism, honesty, integrity, ethical behavior and living our company values.

Here’s a day in the life:

Work directly with internal “clients” to understand project request, gather requirements, define objectives, deliverables and delivery dates, plan resources and develop a clear and actionable project plan. Develop project scopes, budgets, and timelines involving all relevant stakeholders and ensure that work is produced on-time and within budget. Write or gather clear and detailed briefs for the Packaging Design team, and answer any internal and external questions. Manage external agency partners, schedule all meetings with cross-functional stakeholders, facilitate design reviews and compile feedback. Attend cross functional team meetings and report project updates back to Packaging Design team. Work with product development and QA on ensuring brand packaging is updated with current back and front panel information. Manage and coordinate development, production and printing processes, details, vendors, estimates, and delivery with external vendor partners. Maintain a database of reliable creative, print and production vendors. Manage internal design requests ensuring Tillamook has consistent messaging, look and feel, no matter the size. Ensure best practices are being met, actively managing all projects through Workfront. Manage prototype production and delivery, color standards library, packaging sample library. Attend press approvals. Maintain artwork in specification system. Develop creative presentations using PowerPoint. Manage a budget, estimate future year, process invoices and track.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

4-year degree in business, marketing, relevant field or equivalent experience. 7+ years of experience successfully managing packaging projects in a Creative Design Agency or an in-house CPG company. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Project Management Tools (Workfront a plus), Familiarity with Adobe Suite. Experience in product packaging production or prepress a plus. Experience in CPG packaging a plus. A master at juggling multiple priorities and managing tight timelines with enthusiasm. A strong communicator, with clear and consistent written and oral communication. A people leader, adept at listening, questioning, guiding, facilitating, and motivating cross-functional teams. A businessperson who internalizes strategy and anticipates questions from leadership. A detail-oriented wizard, able to catch typos and inconsistencies in branding & messaging. A creative problem solver.
