JOB SUMMARY:

The Analog Electrical Engineer II is responsible for more complex tasks within electrical engineering. Designs and analyzes electrical systems, troubleshoots issues, and participates in the development of project plans. Level II engineers often collaborate with level I engineers and may lead small projects or tasks. This role is crucial for advancing our dental technologies and contributing to the innovations in the modern dental diagnostics.

ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY DUTIES:

Designs intraoral X-ray imaging generators, ensuring innovative and efficient solutions. Focuses on circuit design, simulation, and layout, particularly in analog and mixed-signal circuits. Creates and interprets electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and specifications.

Leads in small construction of prototypes and models for testing and evaluation.

Provides engineering assistance on current products including root cause failure analysis, design changes, supplier interaction and manufacturing process improvements.

Implements testing strategies to ensure reliability and safety of the X-ray imaging generators. Collaborates with the engineering and quality teams to meet safety and compliance requirements.

Understands and performs testing required for appropriate regulatory standards and product specifications.

Performs detailed analysis to identify and understand the root causes of failures. Implements systematic troubleshooting techniques to efficiently resolve technical issues.

Coordinates with project schedules, communicates resource needs, and escalates technical challenges, ensuring on-time delivery of products.

Works closely with mechanical engineers, software developers, and product managers to integrate electrical designs into overall product development. Escalates significant issues or decisions to higher-level engineers.

Stays up to date with the latest trends in X-ray imaging technology and electrical circuit design. Applies this knowledge to drive continuous improvement in product design and functionality.

Prepares and maintains detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and user manuals.

SECONDARY DUTIES:

Works independently and collaboratively on data analysis and problem-solving following general guidelines.

Follows quality management practices.

Provides general technical support for other team members.

Participates in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field and 4 years of experience in analog electrical engineering, preferably in the medical device industry. A master’s degree or higher in electrical engineering, specializing in analog or mixed-signal design is preferred. GMP training, standard compliance training, and certifications for tool proficiency preferred. Prior experience in designing dental or medical equipment, or X-ray imaging devices preferred.

COMPETENCY and/or SKILL:

Strong expertise in analog circuit design, PCB layout, and simulation tools. Familiarity with high-voltage circuit design is highly desired.

Understanding of medical device regulations, including FDA compliance and CE marking processes as well as engineering principles, tools, and practices.

Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical issues and provide effective solutions.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and documentation. Working knowledge of basic communication protocols (i.e., I2, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet, etc.)

A track record of innovation in electrical design, demonstrated through patents or published papers. Ability to create and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to co-ops and level I engineers.
