**Client Support Specialist**

Housing Washington, District of Columbia The Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia seeks an energetic and client-centered individual for the position of Client Support Specialist to provide support to Legal Aid clients who are facing challenges related to housing . Legal Aid is the largest civil legal services program in the District of Columbia. The bulk of our work is comprised of individual representation in housing, domestic violence/family, public benefits, immigration, and consumer law. From the experiences of our clients, we identify opportunities for law reform, public policy advocacy, and systemic reform litigation. We aspire both to reflect the rich racial diversity of the communities we serve and to value, respect, and empower our staff and clients to be effective agents of change . Tasks and Duties The Client Support Specialist will work with Legal Aids attorneys to provide wrap-around support for individuals and families experiencing housing insecurity. The C lient Support Specialist will engage with clients as needed to assist them in identifying and addressing individualized needs, with the goal of overcoming barriers to housing stability. Our goal is for the Client Support Specialist to understand the community they serve and build trusting relationships that allow them to facilitate access to a variety of services and benefits and meet clients where they are . We are particularly interested in candidates who have lived experience navigating these systems. Duties include, but are not limited to: performing administrative tasks related to the job, including updating community resource lists, collecting data , and managing files as required ; collaborating and coordinating with client support specialists at other legal services organizations engaged in similar work ; and A successful candidate will be committed to providing compassionate and empathic service s , and will want to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment . The ideal candidate will be open to working with Legal Aid attorneys and leadership to adapt their role and duties as needed to meet chang ing client needs. Qualifications Candidate s must have the following qualifications: Excellent organizational skills, with attention to detail; Effective oral and written communication skills; Strong interpersonal skills and desire to take initiative in managing projects; Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others; Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Google applications (familiarity working with online databases helpful but not required) . The ideal candidate will also have the following qualifications: Experience providing client-centered services; Experience engaging with Legal Aids client community or individuals or families facing housing instability; Familiarity with District of Columbia housing and assistance programs through lived or professional experience strongly desired but not required; Ability to speak Spanish, Amharic, or other language strongly desirable but not required. Salary and Benefits The Client Support Specialist will be paid in accordance with Legal Aids salary scale based on years of experience, starting at for a candidate with less than one year of relevant experience , followed by a salary step each year thereafter. Legal Aid also offers a competitive benefits package.
