Supervisor: Community Development Manager FSLA Status: Non-exempt/ Seasonal/PRN (as needed) Salary: $20.00 per/hour Department: Community Development General Function: A Native Pathways Program Assistant provides leadership and guidance for Native Pathways Program (NPP) participants, ensuring a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the NPP mission in that strong communities are built through connection. A Native Pathways Program Assistant creates positive, nurturing relationships with Native American youth, while building cooperative relationships with parents/elders. Under the direction of the Community Development Manager, the Native Pathways Program Assistant(s) will be responsible for assisting the NPP Education Coordinators with the daily tasks associated with program activities and events. This is not a full-time position. This position is PRN or as needed for special events/projects. Know How: A Native Pathways Program Assistant must be able to communicate clearly and appropriately with youth, parents, and TNH staff in both speaking and writing; must possess good organizational skills; can maintain control of areas even when distracted by noise or activity; interact with a variety of individuals with courtesy, tact, and professionalism. A Native Pathways Program Assistant also must possess: Education and experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field. Pass a background check. CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications, Cultural Sensitivity and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date. Ability to implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities. Must have a positive attitude and like working with youth. Must be patient and energetic with NPP youth, but also ability to enforce rules and policies & procedures. Ability to develop positive relationships with people from Native American backgrounds. Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Lift items (up to 50 lbs) Carry items (up to 50 lbs) Must be able to communicate verbally with good voice projection. Ability to perform a variety of tasks outside in various climates. Up-to-date immunizations Principle Activities: Keep safety of participants in mind at all times. Knows the whereabouts of all participants at all times i.e. early morning arrivals, bus, camps, trips, events, etc. Knows, follows, and enforces NPP rules and safety guidelines associated with camps, field trips, and events/activities. Model positive behaviors by setting a good example in promptness, manners, language, appearance, health, respect and care for the facilities and the outdoors. Supervise activities of children, including but not limited to music, games, art, and outside activities. Provide an enjoyable experience for each participant and encourage participation and help develop positive social interactions. Responds to and properly addresses any emergencies that may occur during NPP camps, trips, and events. Maintain positive relations with parents and other TNH staff. Keep all TNH equipment in good operating condition and be responsible for returning items to their proper place. Maintain required program records. Attend staff meetings and training as deemed necessary. Assist in maintaining and cleaning of assigned areas. Report all program changes and equipment needs to NPP Education Coordinators (or Community Development Manager as needed). Assist NPP Education Coordinators/and or contractors while participating in their activity. Report to the NPP Education Coordinators or Community Development Manager any difficult or unusual situations. Other Duties as assigned.
