Job Description & Synthesis
The Associate Attorney in the Trusts & Estates Department will provide legal services in one or more practice areas of estate planning, estate and trust administration, guardianship/conservatorship, special needs planning, and elder law. The Associate Attorney will have the opportunity to work with experienced attorneys who possess practice area expertise, allowing for collaboration and developing strategies and solutions. This position is best suited for well-organized individuals with superior attention to detail, and exceptional multi-tasking skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct client meetings relating to the design and delivery of estate plans;
- Conduct legal research to design, draft, and implement comprehensive estate plans;
- Craft and implement estate tax and long-term care planning strategies;
- Administer probate and trust estates, appearing on behalf of and advocating for clients in Probate Court;
- Conduct regular file reviews and other procedural duties and communicate status changes and updates to clients regularly;
- Proactively set case strategy and initiate actions to benefit clients;
- Prepare and review gift and estate tax returns for large and complex estates for residents of RI, MA & FL;
- Prepare probate pleadings;
- Administer trusts;
- Business succession planning;
- Work in cooperation with firm staff to efficiently, cost-effectively, and promptly deliver client work product.
- Juris Doctor Degree;
- Licensed to practice and in good standing with the Rhode Island and/or Massachusetts Bars;
- Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office;
- Minimum of 3 years' Trusts & Estates experience;
- Sound analytical, legal research and writing skills;
- Highly organized, adaptable, focused, and able to handle multiple tasks and cases concurrently;
- Outstanding client service skills and ability to lead productive meetings;
- Strong ethical standards;
- Collegial environment orientation
