Position Summary

The Outside Plant (OSP) Technology Engineer will have primary responsibility for evaluating, Lab testing, documenting, and recommending new equipment and materials, which includes supporting new technologies and related products. This position will interact with operations, vendors, and the field offices with evaluation, trials, and deployments. A strong background in RF principles, Optical principles, and networks along with their theory, design, and operation is essential for this role.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Innovate, Research, and evaluate new materials and equipment for deployment in the field.
  • Use the appropriate test (RF and Optical) equipment and evaluate new products and vendors for RF and optical performance and innovative applications.
  • Investigate and recommend new items, materials, and technologies to enhance the plant infrastructure, technology, and operations.
  • Work with operations with trials to evaluate new products and their performance in the field.
  • Develop documentation to be used by Operations for records, deployment procedures, application, and design standards for meeting Armstrong criteria.
  • Interact with the training department in developing materials for training of new products, new applications, and standards.
  • Develop and review SCTE, NEC, and NESC standards as they apply to the plant infrastructure.
  • Develop and document company procedures for plant-related activities.
What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred in the field of Engineering, Electrical, Optical or RF preferred.
  • Strong understanding of RF and Optical networks
  • 5 years of related experience required.
  • Must be a self-learner with the ability to process and retain information without direction or a fixed curriculum.
  • Must be organized and able to meet deadlines that often change unpredictably.
  • Must have excellent writing skills and the ability to communicate and present complex issues to a variety of audiences.
  • Must have good people skills and be able to work as part of a close-knit local team while having the maturity to keep more remote managerial relationships current.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed to local Armstrong operations offices and vendor locations as needed.
  • Must have a thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio)
