Work Location: Central Campus Worksite Address: 221 Whitney Ave, New Haven, CT 06511 Work Model: Remote Position Focus: Reporting to the Associate Director for Preservation Digital Strategies, the Head of Digital Preservation provides vision, leadership, and strategic direction for digital preservation, creating and maintaining strategies and policies to ensure that collections are preserved and accessible. Advocates for sustainable stewardship and works with stakeholders to build considerations for digital preservation into every stage of the lifecycle. Plays an important role in team building and cultivates a supportive remote work culture. Works closely with the Associate Director to set unit goals and establish a vision for preservation and stewardship that aligns with the Library’s strategic directions. Raises awareness about the unit’s work, meets with colleagues to understand their needs, translates their requirements into sustainable technical solutions, and cultivates new partnerships related to digital preservation. Essential Duties: Identify and troubleshoot digital preservation issues including digital preservation system issues and ad-hoc user generated digital preservation related challenges. Work with content owners/depositors to configure and monitor workflows for ingesting, preserving, accessing and reporting on preserved digital content. Understand, configure and enforce security protocols within digital preservation systems and services. Provide support and training for users of tools and services provided by the digital preservation team. Use available tools and capabilities to identify at-risk digital content and propose and/or implement strategies to mitigate those risks. Develop, test and execute digital preservation plans to ensure digital content can continue to be accessible in the future. Work with stakeholders throughout the Library and Yale University to document digital preservation policies and processes to meet the requirements of ISO 16363 Requirements for the Audit and Certification of Trustworthy Digital Repositories. Develop requirements for and test updates to the digital preservation software when implemented, and ensure all processes are running as expected. Undertake role-related research and development. Other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience: Master’s degree from an ALA‐accredited library school. In selected instances, a post‐graduate degree in a related discipline may be required or substituted for a master’s degree in library science. Demonstrated excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications and analytical ability. Demonstrated record of designing projects and bringing them to a conclusion in a timely fashion. Experience working collegially and cooperatively within and across organizations. Experience working collaboratively and independently with varied groups within a complex organization and rapidly changing, team environment. Required Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated ability and success in the development and/or management of a digital library, archive, or repository. Strong people-centered leadership and management skills. Demonstrated ability to explain complex technical and preservation issues and processes to non-specialists. Demonstrated ability with current technologies, standards, and practice in preservation of digital collections. Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Familiarity with the requirements of a Trusted Digital Repository. Knowledge of Intellectual Property and Rights management as it relates to digital assets. Project management training and familiarity with preservation principles and procedures relating to library and Special Collections materials.
