Position Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for modeling the Compassus values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation and for promoting the Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of Success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the company, among all departments, and all external stakeholders. The Senior Accountant performs simple to relatively complex analytical assignments and prepares entries to aid in the creation of financial statements and analysis reports, sometimes working in small teams. S/he assists Accounting leadership and senior-level accounting professionals with the month and year-end close. S/he supports the company's efforts to comply with GAAP.

Position Specific Responsibilities
  • Reviews and/or prepares transactions for entry, posts entries upon approval, collects and evaluates data, conducts analysis, and prepares reports.
  • Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records. Reports inconsistencies to higher-level associates.
  • Assists with the preparation of general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Aids in analyzing financial reports and records.
  • Prepares schedules with supporting documentation for external auditors.
  • Assists in the preparation of financial and operating reports including trial balances, adjustments, and closing entries.
  • Interprets and communicates financial reports and results for managers.
  • Conducts or assists in the documentation/support of accounting projects of varying complexity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or Accounting required.
  • Master's degree with a concentration in Accounting preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related experience required.
  • Understanding and experience with reconciliation functions, posting journal entries, and month-end processing required.
  • Experience in the preparation of general ledgers, basic knowledge of FASB requirements, and GAAP required.
  • Experience in the healthcare industry preferred.
  • Experience with Workday Financial preferred.
Skills
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leaders, colleagues, investors, and external parties. Strong written and verbal communications.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Articulates and embraces hospice philosophy.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred.


Physical Demands and Work Environment: The demands of this role necessitate a team member to effectively perform essential functions.
