ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIESRecruit, hire, oversee, direct, and supervise the work of, and evaluate the performance of all recreational / activity staff.Trains and develops subordinates to prepare them for promotion and increased responsibility.Meets with activities staff on a regular basis to develop, conduct, and evaluate activities.Establish an active volunteer program which includes recruiting, screening, orienting, training, and supervising volunteers.Conducts, attends, and participates in new hire orientation, training, in-service educations, and staff meetings.Identifies developmental needs and provides and implements developmental plans for staff.Serves as liaison for the center in promoting positive community support and develops methods of utilizing community resources to enhance program opportunities.Ensure all mandatory training is completed on time.Coordinates with the Administrator to arrange for appropriate coverage during periods of absence.Maintains an organized, clean, and safe work area, including activity rooms and common areas.Manages time, projects, and records effectively.Attend and actively participate in monthly meetings and other meetings as requested.Routinely evaluates the department's services as part of the center's Quality Assurance and Process Improvement (QAPI) program; resolves all issues pertaining to the QAPI process.Maintains a departmental MSDS notebook.Conduct time studies when requested. JOB DESCRIPTION: DIRECTOR OF RECREATION 2 of 3 REVISED 03/2023Complete continuing education as may be required by state law to maintain certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional.Reports all instances of suspected abuse or neglect or other concerns to appropriate parties.Recognize abnormal signs and symptoms, which may signify a physical change in any resident's condition that could require nursing intervention; report the same to charge nurse immediately.Maintain confidentiality of all resident information.Performs other duties as necessary for the successful operation of the healthcare center. RECREATION & ACTIVITIESDirect all activity functions and services in the department.Provide a plan of activities appropriate to the needs of the residents.Complete a comprehensive resident activity assessment according to resident background, past and present leisure interests, abilities, physical and mental limitations, and activity related needs and develop resident activity goals for the written care plan on admission; review and update quarterly.Participate in interdisciplinary review process of the resident's care plan and completes information in the activity section of the MDS assessment.Complete timely progress notes accurately recording outcomes specific to the resident's activity plan, recording at least quarterly in the resident's medical record and on-going when the resident experiences a change in condition.Perform annual / significant change reassessments, progress notes, and MDS's in timely manner.Maintain accurate records which indicate a resident's attendance, participation in, and response to activities in the program.Schedule and coordinate therapeutic activities to meet the variety of interests, including physical, spiritual, cognitive, and psychosocial needs of the residents.Informs residents, support staff, families, and the interdisciplinary team of the current schedule of planned activities.Completes and submits monthly electronic calendar and monthly posted calendar per company policy on or before the due date.Ensure residents are transported safely and appropriately to and from activities.Develop methods to implement the activity program within an allocated budget.Directs the program of activities as printed and posted.Assigns program leadership to qualified individuals.Facilitate monthly Resident Council meetings according to residents' wishes and company policies.Communicate to the residents, staff, and outside community the purpose and benefits of the activity program through in-service training and presentations.Compose calendars, flyers, posters, and/or newsletters as directed by the Administrator.
