Overview:

Steel Dynamics robust internship program offers hands-on, challenging projects in a fast-paced work environment. We will challenge your education and expertise while providing guidance and mentorship as you grow and develop your skills.
This Human Resources Internship is expected to last from March to October of 2024. The selected candidate will be expected to maintain 20-25 hours per week throughout spring and transition to 40 hours per week in summer. Candidates must have the ability to work in person in Fort Wayne, IN throughout the school year.

Responsibilities:

Corporate Onboarding & Professional Talent Sourcing

  • Assist in the recruitment process by posting job openings, screening resumes, scheduling interviews, and maintaining candidate databases.
  • Support the onboarding process for new hires, including preparing new hire paperwork, coordinating orientation sessions, and ensuring a smooth transition into the company culture.
  • Assist in the management of HR documentation, including personnel files, benefits enrollment, and other administrative tasks related to employee records.
  • Utilize various sourcing methods, including job boards, social media, networking, and direct outreach, to attract a qualified candidate pool.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with candidates, hiring managers, and external partners, ensuring effective communication throughout the hiring process.
  • Propose and implement process improvements to streamline recruitment procedures and enhance the candidate experience.
  • Leverage an applicant tracking system (ATS) for streamlined recruitment processes, optimizing candidate management and data accuracy.

Young Talent Acquisition Programs

  • Facilitate the onboarding of 130+ interns located across our steel, metals recycling, and fabrication platforms.
  • Organize and execute the annual Intern Extravaganza, a flagship event designed to familiarize interns with our operations, leadership team, corporate culture, and facilitate networking among interns.
  • Participate in Northeast Indiana FAME Chapter meetings and contribute insights to Recruiting Committee strategy sessions.

University Recruiting

  • Research and implement effective candidate sourcing strategies to bolster our talent pipeline.
  • Organize visits to local colleges and technical universities.
  • Oversee the logistics of banner and promotional item shipments to and from universities to enhance our brand presence and engagement with potential candidates.
Qualifications:
  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's program with a focus on Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Ability to work a minimum of 20-25 hours throughout spring and 40 hours throughout summer.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities.
  • High level of adaptability and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and complete projects independently.
