The Permit Specialist is responsible for assembling all documents required for permitting, submitting, and obtaining all building permits for the designing of solar panels system. A successful Permit Specialist will interface with in-house designers and city officials, working with them to prepare and review all paperwork and drawings necessary to receive building permits and resolve objections related to Building, Zoning and Planning Departments as needed. The Permit Specialist works closely with the Branch Coordinator and external stakeholders to ensure jobs are progressing through their designated sector of the project lifecycle in a timely and efficient manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Review permit list and see what permits are ready to be issued and submitted
  • Call cities and counties for application process, costs, status update, & to confirm jurisdiction
  • Fill out permit applications/ print them out if needed
  • Identify common issues and develop suitable solutions and processes
  • Address incoming inquiries in a timely, efficient, and professional manner
  • Update notes in an internal database and spreadsheets for all related tasks and manages project status changes
  • Follow up on inquiries about project status in a timely, efficient, and professional manner
  • Email and phone communication with colleagues and utilities to ensure projects move smoothly
  • Conduct web research and phone inquiries to analyze and document utility processes for various utilities and jurisdictions
  • Proactively contact utilities on that status of projects and get clarification on utility requirements
  • All other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday
  • Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record according to company policy
  • Reliable transportation
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Exemplary communication skills
  • Alternate sitting or standing at will in regular office environment is required
Preferred Skills:
  • Previous experience in the solar industry is a plus
  • Spanish speaking is preferred, but not required
  • Experience with Netsuite is preferred

  • The pay scale for this non-exempt position is slated to be $17.00 to $25.00 per hour, depending on experience, licensing, and education (Pay scale is defined by the Labor Commissioner as the salary or hourly wage range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for the position)
