Position Overview
This role involves conducting advanced evaluations of plans and specifications related to fire suppression, detection systems, hazardous materials, and high pile storage to ensure compliance with fire and life safety regulations. The Fire Protection Analyst will also contribute to the formulation and implementation of fire codes and prevention standards, while overseeing the activities of plan check and permit personnel.

The Ontario Fire Department operates from 11 strategically positioned fire stations, including one at the Ontario International Airport, staffed by a dedicated team of firefighters.

Department Overview
The Ontario Fire Department is committed to Community Risk Reduction, providing exceptional service through its Fire Prevention Bureau. This bureau utilizes comprehensive databases to identify hazardous occupancies and conducts regular inspections to ensure compliance with safety codes.

Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and guide the activities of staff, including selection, assignments, performance evaluations, and professional development.
- Develop and manage the City's fire protection analysis and chemical hazards program.
- Conduct fire safety analyses and provide recommendations for hazardous materials storage and complex systems.
- Review and approve building plans, fire alarm systems, and evaluate potential hazards.
- Offer technical advice regarding fire and building codes and coordinate with the Hazardous Material Enforcement Program.
- Inspect construction sites and existing facilities for adherence to codes and standards.
- Assist in training staff in code enforcement and fire safety practices.
- Conduct research on materials and systems to assess safety and applicability.
- Provide expert testimony in legal proceedings as needed.
- Review requests for alternative materials or methods and perform legislative analysis on proposed code revisions.
- Collaborate with developers on prospective projects.

Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in fire protection, civil, chemical, or mechanical engineering, or construction engineering technology.
- A minimum of three years of progressive experience in fire protection systems analysis, including plan review.
- Required certifications from the California State Fire Marshal, including Fire Inspector I and II, and Plans Examiner certifications.
- A valid California Class C driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
