The Division of Air Quality monitors and regulates all emissions to the air. It issues permits to construct and permits to operate air contaminant sources. It maintains emission inventories from business and industry. It develops the State’s implementation plan as required by the Clean Air Act.

**Summary Statement**:
This position is located within the Division of Air Quality Planning Section at the Dover, DE State Street Commons office. Duties are related to Airshed Planning and Emission Inventory and include: State Implementation Plan revisions; emissions inventory assistance; technical research and data analysis in support of air quality related programs, primarily related to National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS); and the development of regulations and other voluntary measures to reduce air quality emissions within the state of Delaware.

**Essential Functions**:
Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. - Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.
- Performs statistical analysis of data.
- Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.
- Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.

**Job Requirements**:
**JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist II**
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

- Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field.
- Six months experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.
- Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
- Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
- Six months experience in technical report writing.
