The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) values its Engineers as essential contributors to safeguarding public health and the environment.

In recognition of this, we are excited to offer financial recruitment incentives to new Engineers joining DNREC, in line with our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.


Incentive Program Details:
Sign-On Bonuses are structured according to the classification of the position:

  • $4,000 for Junior Environmental Engineer
  • $5,000 for Engineer II
  • $6,000 for Engineer III
  • $7,000 for Engineer IV
These bonuses will be disbursed in two payments: one after three months of service and the second after eighteen months of employment.

New hires accepting this recruitment incentive must commit to a two-year tenure with DNREC in the Engineer classification series.

Position Overview

The Division of Air Quality is responsible for monitoring and regulating air emissions. This includes issuing permits for construction and operation of air contaminant sources, maintaining emission inventories, and developing the State's implementation plan as mandated by the Clean Air Act.

Career Advancement

Upon successful completion of departmental promotional standards and job requirements, employees may qualify for advancement to higher levels.

Key Responsibilities

The essential functions outlined below are fundamental to all positions within this classification and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties:

  • Draft, develop, and modify engineering designs, plans, and specifications.
  • Review permit applications, blueprints, and designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Utilize principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and devise solutions to technical challenges.
  • Plan and conduct field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections, and investigations to gather data and ensure adherence to state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Test or evaluate materials, equipment, systems, and facilities.
  • Plan and coordinate engineering projects.
  • Review, analyze, and report on project status and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop cost estimates for project timelines and materials.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to technical staff.
Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate competence in the following areas:

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering, or official notification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination in the relevant fields.
