The Community Outreach and Training Supervisor (COTS) will work as part of the Violence Intervention Advocacy Program (VIAP) team at Boston Medical Center to provide inpatient hospital based services, and specialized home based and community engagement to clients served by VIAP. The COTS will provide brief crisis intervention and support, helping to identify community resources for the victim, and maintaining appropriate data. The COTS will also be responsible for scheduling/facilitating all educational sessions regarding VIAP with community partners, internal hospital staff, and educational institutions and for implementing new VIAP projects identified for at risk youth.

The COTS is our essential boots-on the-ground connection to the community, its residents, and the VIAP. The COTS manages the performance and schedule of Outreach workers. The COTS strives to gain the trust of the community, especially those high at-risk individuals, allowing VIAP to help prevent shootings and retaliatory violence. The COTS is the linkage to pro-social alternatives including activities, jobs, and education, through case management and social services programs.

**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Manages the training, scheduling, performance evaluation, day-to-day scheduling of Outreach Workers
- Identifies and develops relationships with at risk individuals within target community. Understands and uses different mediation tactics in order to reach a successful outcome with high-risk populations based on culture, rituals and background of groups (“gang members”) within identified areas.
- Collaborates with VIAP community partners, including Boston Police Department, the Gang Unit and the Homicide Detectives to formulate action plans and strategies to help resolve conflicts with gang mediation and prevent shootings.
- Identifies and diffuses high risk areas for shootings and violence based on information learned during hospital visits. Responds to BMC clients injured by gunshots or stab wound, as assigned.
- Operates as the liaison to the City of Boston Mayor’s Office of Public Safety, and attends all relevant meetings. Functions as point person for VIAP with the City of Boston Neighborhood Trauma Teams
- Serves as liaison to the Health Alliance for Violence Intervention (HAVI), VIAP’s National Trade Association
- Assists with developing curriculum and recruiting and supervising Alumni mentors for the VIAP Mentoring Program. Coordinates group work to address financial literacy, employment, resume writing, and employment skills.
- Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, will provide inpatient interventions and assessment followed by community stabilization, including home and neighborhood visits and visibility
- Works with collaborating partners to ensure clients have access to appropriate services; including but not limited to mental health and substance abuse treatment, housing, education and life skills training, and employment opportunities
- The COTS coordinates and presents workshops, seminars, special events, and training materials for identified audiences including students, hospital staff, and collaborative partners. The COTS creates and/or delivers training and education programs in a defined area of expertise to meet the needs of an identified population or program.
- The COTS supervises all interns placed at VIAP, and is responsible for all paperwork, performance evaluations and deadlines related to interns.
