**Duties**:
As a Supervisory Bioinformatics Specialist, you will:

- Be responsible for the day-to-day first line supervision of professional staff as well as providing oversight to contract staff.
- Interface with senior staff to ensure that objectives and policies are compatible with needs and goals.
- Develop new initiatives related to bioinformatics, clinical trials, and emerging technologies.
- Provide authoritative technical oversight for bioinformatics projects.
- Prepare complex analyses of various bioinformatics research efforts to assist advisory groups in recommending new and/or continuing program emphases.
- Interact with other divisions, offices, centers, institutes, or government agencies on bioinformatics issues and in coordinating bioinformatics and data management.
- Serve as spokesperson and actively participate in programs and initiatives relating to computational biology in the areas of bioinformatics, genomics, systems biology, and mathematical modeling.

**Qualifications**:
**In order to qualify for a Supervisory Bioinformatics Specialist, GS-0601,** position you must have successfully completed a full four (4) year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained).
- **In addition, in order to qualify for a Supervisory Bioinformatics Specialist, GS-0601,** at the **GS-15** level, you must have at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: directing and deploying bioinformatic efforts in support of strategic plan initiatives; identifying informatics needs of researchers and managing large bioinformatics data systems; analyzing and overseeing the development and implementation of new cutting-edge technology relating to bioinformatics; evaluating educational materials for use by the research community in creating, adopting and adapting terminology; presenting best practices related to bioinformatics research terminology and other similar activities.
- You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
