The Program Manager will advance Safety, Security, Sustainability, and Social Responsibility across the BioMADE ecosystem and within our member base. The 4S Program Manager will work with BioMADE's 4S program team on the full spectrum of activities associated with Program management, ranging from conception of program calls to management of a portfolio of projects. The 4S Program Manager will also partner with the 4S member advisory committee, the internal BioMADE team, U.S. Government leadership, and BioMADE members. This position is responsible for overseeing the review process and shepherding responses to project calls that address safety, security, sustainability and/or social responsibility in biomanufacturing. The Program Manager will justify projects selected for funding, coordinating closely with the BioMADE and U.S. Government leadership. This position is responsible for the active management of a portfolio of BioMADE projects.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Manage a portfolio of BioMADE projects selected to advance safety, security, sustainability, and social responsibility in bio-industrial manufacturing. Monitor technical progress, deliverables, and milestones, and provide project related financial and intellectual property reporting.
- Integrate elements of the BioMADE 4S vision and other BioMADE programmatic areas as applicable into 4S project calls.
- Conduct regular status meetings with project teams. Review and approve monthly and quarterly technical reports to ensure risks to the project are mitigated and projects are progressing.
- Review and approve final technical reports and post-award impact reports to identify project achievements to be shared publicly.
- Collaborate with the BioMADE Communications Team to ensure publications, presentations, inventions, and other forms of intellectual property resulting from projects are being appropriately shared with BioMADE membership and external stakeholders, in accordance with BioMADE confidentiality provisions.
- Communicate project status updates, in coordination with Director and the BioMADE Leadership Team to ensure the successful execution of the projects.
- Prepare reports and associated documents for BioMADE leadership, committees, and DoD, to communicate status of the projects.
- Review and approve project invoices to ensure scope of work and deliverables are met. Ensure administrative and financial oversight of the projects are aligned with the technical progress.
- Conduct site visits to meet with members regarding their projects.
- Present on BioMADE and programmatic success to various stakeholders including the broader social sciences, safety, and/or security community and the public through conferences and other open venues.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining BioMADE 4S principles interacting with individuals, members, and teams across BioMADE to ensure a consistent 4S approach to every program endeavor.
- As needed, support the Program Director and the BioMADE 4S Committee through an active role in creating relevant policies and procedures, and assisting with planning and executing committee meetings
- PhD or MS Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience or BS/BA Degree and 6+ years’ professional experience related to advancing the social dimensions of complex issue areas at the intersection of science and society.
- Relevant areas of expertise or interest may include but are not limited to areas such as safety and security in biotechnology, science communication, science and technology innovation research, survey and qualitative research design, economics, broad societal impacts, regulatory sciences, supply chain resilience, sustainability, green technologies, public engagement, risk perception, public opinion formation and public perception of science and technology.
- Training or experience managing federal government programs, as a civil servant, military, or contractor, is a plus.
- Experience managing multi-institute programs in academia is a plus.
- The ability to resolve complex problems/issues and to recommend or make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
- Effective communication skills, with evidence of strong technical and persuasive writing skills.
- Prior experience in critical review and evaluation of safety or social science proposals or programmatic proposals with strong societal components.
- The ability to collect, analyze and interpret data and information from various sources.
- ** Ability to work for a 12-month period approx. mid-August 2024 to mid-August 2025.**
