As one of the greater Phoenix area’s iconic institutions and one of Arizona’s most important cultural assets, we are seeking dynamic, outgoing, goal-oriented team members to join our team and help propel the Symphony into its next phase of artistic and organizational growth.

**Purpose of the Position**:
The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for a portfolio of 120-150 households giving at the $1,500+ level through all stages of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship totaling $1M - $2M annually. The MGO will work with donors to craft personalized giving strategies, providing individual major gift proposals as appropriate. This individual serves as part of a dynamic fundraising team collaborating with the broader philanthropic community in support of the mission, vision and goals of The Phoenix Symphony.

**Essential Functions**:

- Works collaboratively with the President & CEO, Senior Vice-President and Chief Advancement officer, VP of Development, and Senior Director of Corporate Partnerships to develop and execute strategies and plans to move individuals up the ladder of engagement, loyalty, and giving.
- Possesses a broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising - able to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle: (1) to initiate contacts with potential donors; (2) to develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers and senior leadership; (3) to move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; (4) to make solicitations when appropriate; (5) to maintain stewardship contacts with donors.
- Ability to articulate the case for support so that individuals understand and connect with the vision/mission/goals of the Symphony and with sufficient effectiveness to secure gifts at assigned donor giving levels.
- Works collaboratively and strategically with other Development staff and key volunteers, as appropriate, to coordinate strategic and purposeful cultivation and solicitation activities.
- Will be well informed of the Symphony’s strategic priorities and gift opportunities to best align with the interests of donors and prospective donors who have the capacity and inclination to support them.
- Initiates contact and secures face-to-face cultivation and solicitation meetings with donors and prospects, including hosting donors at concerts.
- Authors and/or edits funding proposals, consistent with Symphony protocols, to facilitate effective gift solicitations.
- Continuously manages and updates portfolio activity in the AudienceView donor database.
- Performs other responsibilities or assignments as needed, including weekend concert duty.

**Qualifications**:

- At least three (3) years progressive fundraising experience, with proven record of accomplishments moving individuals to higher levels of giving through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; experience securing gifts of $5,000 and higher is preferred.
- Knowledge of planned giving vehicles, experience with gift planning marketing platforms, and successful record of soliciting and stewarding legacy gifts.
- Demonstrated success working with high level donors and trustees, maintaining the highest levels of discretion and integrity.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required.
- Strong problem-solving, research and analytical skills.
- Ability to travel and work outside traditional office hours.
- Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent time management and follow-through.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Displays strong work ethic and professionalism using discretion representing the office of the President and CEO and The Phoenix Symphony.
- Demonstrate initiative and independent thinking.

**Computer Skills**:

- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs and online file sharing platforms such as Google (drive, sheets, docs).
- Experience with donor databases and donor moves management.

**Education/Experience**:

- Bachelor’s degree required or combination of equivalent work experience.
- At least three (3) years or more of experience required.

**Working Conditions**/**Demands**:

- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to work weekend Concert Duty as required.
