SafeSpace headquarters is a nonprofit in San Mateo County that operates on a youth-derived, driven, and delivered model, with a strong focus on Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI). Central to our approach is empowering young leaders to take charge of their own well-being and recovery, as well as that of their peers.

SafeSpace received a state grant to open a new program and office in Alameda County that focuses on serving participants 18 - 25 years of age. The program focuses on a whole-person health approach to help young adults with mental health challenges in the five areas:

- Defining wellness
- Education
- Peer Certification
- Peer Support and Empowerment
- Family / Caregiver Support

The Program Coordinator at SafeSpace plays a crucial role in overseeing the implementation, coordination, and evaluation of our programs and services aimed at supporting young adult mental health and wellbeing. Here are the essential functions for the Program Coordinator position:

- Program Development: Collaborate with leadership to develop, implement, and evaluate programs and initiatives that align with SafeSpace's mission and goals. Identify needs, trends, and emerging issues related to young adult mental health and social support, and contribute to the development of innovative solutions and strategies.
- Coordination and Logistics: Coordinate all aspects of program logistics, including scheduling, staffing, venue arrangements, and participant registration. Ensure that programs are delivered effectively and efficiently, adhering to established timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Responds to inquiries in a thorough, timely, and courteous manner. Oversee the daily operations of SafeSpace programs and facilities, ensuring smooth functioning and adherence to established protocols. Provide direct support and assistance to program participants, staff, and volunteers as needed, including addressing inquiries, resolving conflicts, and handling emergencies.
- Staff and Volunteer Management: Work closely with the TAY Navigator (staff) to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to ensure high-quality service delivery and participant engagement. Provide ongoing support, guidance, and professional development opportunities to enhance staff and volunteer effectiveness and satisfaction.
- Participant Support and Engagement: Provide direct support and assistance to program participants, including the young adults and their families, to address their individual needs, concerns, and goals. Foster a supportive and inclusive environment where participants feel valued, heard, and empowered to reach their full potential.
- Evaluation and Quality Improvement: Implement systems and processes for program evaluation, monitoring, and quality improvement to assess program effectiveness and impact. Collect and analyze data on program outcomes, participant satisfaction, and stakeholder feedback to inform decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
- Community Outreach and Partnerships: Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, schools, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to promote collaboration, resource-sharing, and program sustainability. Participate in outreach activities, events, and meetings to raise awareness about SafeSpace's programs and engage with potential participants and supporters.
- Administrative Tasks: Perform administrative tasks related to program management, including budget management, grant reporting, record-keeping, and documentation. Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Communication and Advocacy: Serve as a spokesperson for SafeSpace and advocate for the needs and rights of young adult consumers in the community. Communicate program goals, achievements, and impact to stakeholders through written materials, presentations, and public speaking engagements.
- Crisis Intervention and Risk Management: Respond to crisis situations and emergencies involving program participants, following established protocols and procedures. Collaborate with appropriate agencies and authorities to ensure the safety and wellbeing of participants and mitigate risk.
- Cultural Competence and Inclusivity: Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity in all interactions with program participants, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds. Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment that respects and values the diversity of identities, experiences, and perspectives within the SafeSpace community.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS YOU BRING TO OUR TEAM**
- Bachelor's Degree
- Personal Lived Experience: Personal lived experience accessing mental health services and/or mental health recovery as a consumer and/or family caregiver.
- Experience with Unhoused Individuals: 1+ years of experience working with unhoused individuals, demonstrating an understanding of the unique challenges and needs they may face.
