This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position. LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Justice and the State of Wisconsin.
It is anticipated that this position will work part-time (approximately 20 hours/week) and allows for flexible hours.
This position is headquartered at the Risser Justice Center located at 17 West Main Street in Madison.
Position Summary

The Civil Litigation Unit handles a wide variety of matters on behalf of the State of Wisconsin, its agencies, the University of Wisconsin System, and individual state employees.
This position provides a full range of professional litigation assistance and in-depth paraprofessional support to assistant attorneys general including: drafting legal documents and discovery responses; electronically organizing and compiling case files; gathering and analyzing records and facts for various phases of litigation; assistance in preparation for depositions and trials; assistance in witness preparation; identifying and collecting exhibits; providing information to other staff and managers throughout the department and general public; electronically filing documents with the courts; and maintaining contact with client agencies. This position will work with multiple, often competing, priorities.
Salary Information

The Paralegal position is in pay schedule 07 and pay range 04. The starting pay will be between $27.00 - $30.00 /hour. Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.
Job Details

This position may be eligible to work remotely up to 60% as part of a hybrid schedule, following an initial training period, and may require reporting on multiple consecutive workdays, if needed. Travel to the headquarters is not eligible for travel reimbursement.
High speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work.
The Department of Justice does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.
A background check, including fingerprints, will be completed on applicants prior to selection.
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and is limited to the maximum of 1039 hours in a 12-month period. Limited Term Employees must be a resident of Wisconsin.
