This position is headquartered at the Risser Justice Center located at 17 West Main Street in Madison.
Position Summary

This position independently provides advanced paralegal support in complex civil and criminal natural resources litigation in the Civil Litigation Unit. This position gathers facts from a variety of sources to draft interrogatories, affidavits, and other related legal documents; and assists assistant attorneys general during hearings. The majority of the cases assigned are of considerable size and complexity, involve a large volume of monitoring, particularly compliance with injunctions, and multiple legal issues. Most of the cases involve enforcement and forfeiture actions to state statutes and rules.
Salary Information

The Paralegal-Advanced position is in pay schedule 07 and pay range 03. The starting pay will be between $30.00 - $40.00/hour. Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period may be required.
Job Details

This position may be eligible to work remotely up to 60% as part of a hybrid schedule, following an initial training period. Travel to the headquarters is not eligible for travel reimbursement.
High speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work.
O ccasional in-state travel may be required. Must be eligible to drive when required for travel.
The Department of Justice does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.
A background check, including fingerprints, will be completed on applicants prior to selection.

Minimally qualified applicants must have education, training and/or experience in the following : Providing general office support and legal support tasks (i.e., proofreading documents, filing documents with the courts, calendar management, etc.) Proficiency with common office technology (Excel, Word, Outlook, or similar) Drafting legal documents (including pleadings, affidavits, findings of fact, discovery requests and responses, etc.) Managing multiple tasks and prioritizing competing deadlines Working as a litigation paralegal
In addition to the minimum qualifications, a well-qualified applicant will have education, training, and/or experience in the following: Working with adobe Acrobat and case management software (e.g. Time Matters) Supporting attorneys at trial, including the set-up of trial equipment Providing professional legal assistance and support to multiple attorneys
