As the largest adult education provider in Maine, we serve 2,000 adult learners annually through our Academic and Workforce programs, and another 1,000 adults a year through our Enrichment programs. **Position Description**

PAE seeks knowledgeable, experienced, reliable, and team-oriented part time teachers for these in-person classes:

- a Language Arts teacher to teach Informational Text in the fall and Narrative Text in the winter term in the evening.
- a US History instructor for a daytime 12-week course in the fall and one in the winter.

PAE Instructors are hired on a temporary hourly basis. Classes run on a trimester basis from September to June each year. Students in these classes are working toward their high school diplomas and/or preparing for college-level work. Most are English Language Learners.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Plan lessons
- Provide rigorous instruction
- Assess and evaluate student work
- Maintain high expectations and standards while providing scaffolds for students who may struggle with the content
- Communicate effectively with adult learners regarding their individual progress
- Collaborate with other teachers across PAE
- Participate actively in team meetings and communicate regularly with Department Chair
- Use Google Suite (including Google Classroom) for remote or hybrid instruction
- Support students’ digital skill development
- Maintain accurate attendance and grading records, using required record
- keeping database
- Provide data or documentations as needed to fulfill state or grant funding requirements

**Required Skills/Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in related field
- Experience teaching Language Arts or History
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Clear, concise oral and written communication
- Self-motivated with a high degree of flexibility
- Ability to work professionally and ethically within a multicultural setting, including ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of persons, documents, data and communications
- Ability to manage time, set priorities, plan & implement projects effectively
- Ability to work in a demanding environment and a willingness to learn
- Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail

**Preferred**
- Experience working with multicultural populations and ESOL students
- Ability to speak multiple languages
- Previous experience in education, workforce, or community development
- Teacher certification in K-12 or Adult Education
- Prior teaching or training experience in a classroom or professional setting
- PAE Alum, immigrant, and/or BIPOC community members are encouraged to apply

**Location and Work schedule**
- PAE offers both in person and remote classes. In person classes take place at 14 Locust St, Portland, ME
- Class schedules vary - morning, afternoon and evening sessions available
- Classes meet twice a week for 2.5 hours each session
