Adjunct Faculty Interest Pool - Paralegal

Portland Community College is inviting applications for consideration in the Adjunct Faculty Interest Pool for the Paralegal Department. This pool will be utilized to assess candidates for part-time faculty roles as the need arises within the department.

Candidate Profile - Instructor Qualifications

Applicants must possess one of the following qualifications:

  • JD or PhD in law with a minimum of two years of professional experience in law or a related field.
  • OR
  • BA or BS with at least four years of professional experience in law or a related field.

For courses PL101, 102, 103, 107, 201, 202, 204: A JD or PhD in law is required along with two years of relevant work experience.

Academic Credentials:

Official transcripts must be submitted within two weeks of the offer date for degrees required in the stated instructor qualifications. Instructors are expected to have earned their academic credentials from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S. or an equivalent foreign institution. Credentials from international institutions will be evaluated by recognized agencies to ensure compliance with this standard.

Compensation and Benefits:

These positions are governed by the collective bargaining agreement between Portland Community College and the Portland Community College Faculty Federation Employees. Newly hired part-time faculty will commence at Step 1.

PCC offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to provide employees and their families, including domestic partners, with a variety of options. Benefits include:

Benefits are pro-rated for part-time employees. Health insurance eligibility is determined based on workload from the previous academic year. Eligible plans include Health, Dental, and Vision options, along with Long-term Care.

PCC fully funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. Part-time faculty may qualify for PERS/OPSRP after meeting the requirement of six months of employment and working 600 hours or more annually. Additional retirement savings options include a tax-deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program.

PCC also provides a tuition waiver for employees, their spouses/domestic partners, and children under 24 years of age, along with tuition reimbursement for full-time employees attending other accredited institutions.

Paid Leave:

Part-time faculty are entitled to 2 hours of sick leave per pay period, accumulating up to 32 hours per year. A maximum of 8 hours of accrued sick leave per academic year may be utilized for personal reasons.
