**Description**

**GENERAL DESCRIPTION**: Performs entry-level technical public safety record-keeping work. Work involves verifying and analyzing the accuracy of submitted documents by law enforcement agencies and designing, evaluating, reviewing, recommending, implementing, updating, and maintaining a records and information management database. Works under close supervision, with mínimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position.

Applicants must fully complete the summary of experience to determine if minimum qualifications are met.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. Gathers information to help with the identification of terrorist offender records to ensure they are correctly categorized for records retention.

2. Scans, stores, indexes, and classifies terrorist offender records.

3. Receives open records requests and works with legal counsel and other employees to gather appropriate terrorist offender records in accordance with the Public Information Act, ensures appropriate redactions have been made, and determines cost estimates.

4. Assists with gathering terrorist offender records to respond to open records requests in accordance with the Public Information Act.

6. Reviews criminal investigative reports and related material from state and local law enforcement officers and entities to determine pertinent information for entry into automated records.

7. Transmits messages and accesses law enforcement databases to obtain information and to update files.

8. Maintains the agency terrorist offender records disposition log/s.

9. May provide assistance in answering and routing phone calls to appropriate staff.

10. Assists with setting up and utilizing terrorist offender records management systems and formulating filing systems.

11. May assist with developing and conducting terrorist offender records management training for agency staff.

12. May contact law enforcement and judicial agencies regarding criminal history information.

13. Assists with the identification and transfer of inactive terrorist offender records including preparing those records for storage or destruction.

14. May assist with the identification of the agency’s vital records and the creation and maintenance of the agency’s vital records protection.

15. May assist with developing and conducting terrorist offender records management training for agency staff.

16. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.

17. Perform other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**

**GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS**:
**Education **- High School Diploma/equivalent preferred.

**Experience **- Minimum of one (1) year of experience performing standard clerical tasks that include operation of a personal computer for data entry and retrieval of information. Experience in accessing law enforcement databases preferred.
- Substitution Note:_ Additional work experience of the type described or other related education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

**Licensure and/or Certification** - If driving is required, must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.

**Regulatory knowledge** - Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures.

**Technology **- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems (e.g. CAPPS, SharePoint, CJIS systems) and be able to learn new software/systems.
