The Paralegal - Workers' Compensation assists attorneys with legal research, draft reports and pleadings, and performs specialized and confidential support duties to aid the legal counsel with legal matters related to Workers' Compensation; develops data and prepares pleadings, reports, or memoranda related to problems assigned to study; investigates facts and laws of a case to determine causes of action; prepares fact analyses; and assembles complicated packages of documents and other materials for attorneys.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:_**

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Drafts motions and correspondence to Maryland Courts and Maryland Workers' Compensation Commission (WCC);
- Works with Third Party Administrator (TPA) on regular daily basis;
- Prepares disposition notices;
- Conducts online research including checking criminal record, driving record history and civil suit history;
- Reviews and summarizes medical, benefit, and work history information;
- Prepares Medical and Plaintiff Personnel File Chronologies;
- Prepares Case Status Reports;
- Drafts correspondence to attorneys, claim parties, and WCC;
- Compiles documents and data from various sources including WCC, TPA, and claimant's attorneys in anticipation of hearings and litigation;
- Tracks open litigation and settlements;
- Uses legal matters pending before the WCC and courts;
- Schedules mediations and/or dispositions;
- Prepares and organizes referrals for upcoming hearings;
- Keeps attorney's calendars accurate and up-to-date;
- Performs other related duties as required.

**_EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:_**

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university with major work in business administration, public administration, or accounting required; minimum of 2 years of paralegal experience in Workers' Compensation; considerable experience in progressively responsible administrative work, including supervisory or public accounting experience; some experience or familiarity with large scale computerized accounting systems; or any equivalent combinations of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
