**Job Summary**
- Oversees and directs the work of the Corporate Claims Department, including establishing and implementing strategies, processes, and procedures for handling claims brought by third parties for property damage and bodily injury as well as for pursuing claims against third parties for damage to CenterPoint Energy facilities. Works closely with and supports in-house and outside legal counsel in connection with investigations and litigation matters.**Essential Functions**
- Establishes goals and priorities for Claims Department.
- Ensures Claims staff complies with regulations, company policies, procedures and standards of conduct.
- Coordinates claims processing, investigations and resolution of pre-litigation claims, and payment processing.
- Collaborates with legal counsel on claims that may result in litigation.
- Ensures that claims are investigated thoroughly, well documented, processed correctly, and paid or collected timely.
- Creates diary and reviews files to ensure that reserves for bodily injury, lawsuits and larger property damage claims are created timely, in accordance with company procedures and established guidelines, and updated as appropriate in consultation with legal counsel.
- Provides regular reports and ad hoc information to legal counsel, executives, and management on status of claims and settlements as well as regular claims updates and information on request to operational leaders and executives.
- Active engagement with gas and electric operations management and field personnel to communicate identified risks and strategies for mitigation and advise on claim-related issues.
- Handles executive correspondence related to claims complaints and escalated complaints received through various channels.
- Provides secondary response to complaints and/or call backs from customers and/or claimants.
- Manages performance by guiding, counseling, evaluating and handling any performance concerns in accordance with company guidelines.
- Measure departmental and individual performance against established standards and goals.
- Performs administrative activities, such as managing attendance, budget, and staffing levels.
- Focuses on training, coaching, and development of employees.
- Represents the Claims department at various industry and professional conferences or trade groups.
- Performs other duties that may be assigned at the Company’s discretion.

**Education Description**
- Bachelor’s degree required

**Experience**
- Minimum 7 years of working experience in handling liability claims and/or third-party damage claims, and legal protocol or in a field operations position requiring knowledge of the electric/gas distribution system.
- At least 2 years experience in a senior, lead, or manager role required.
- Will consider relevant leadership job-related CenterPoint Energy experience outside of handling liability claims and/or third-party damage claims, and legal protocol.
