**Title**: Social Media Officer

**Reports to**: Advancement & Communications Manager

**Location**: Charlottesville, VA (Remote options available in CA, CO, GA, MD, MA, and VA)

**Schedule**: Flexible, but must be able to join occasional meetings between the hours of 9am and 5pm ET M-F

**Status**: Part Time - Non-exempt (approx. 6 hours per week)

**Compensation**: Pay Rate: $23-30/hour (experience dependent)

**Position Summary**:
The Social Media Officer provides weekly part-time support to the Mind & Life Advancement team by generating, developing, posting, and monitoring paid and organic social media content and activity. This role works closely with the Advancement & Communications Manager to make creative and data-informed decisions steering Mind & Life’s social media strategy. SMO also responds to comments and messages from our audience, and performs daily social listening to cultivate an informed and engaged online community.

The Social Media Officer supports the Advancement Team/Advancement & Communications Manager by:

- Generating creative concepts and campaigns to promote Mind & Life’s programs, podcast, grantees and other community members, strategy, history, and values
- Writing copy for social media posts
- Responding to comments and messages daily to keep our online community engaged and informed
- Using tools like Canva to design graphics and additional assets for creative campaigns
- Creating, scheduling, and monitoring content performance through Hootsuite
- Collecting metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to aid in generating reports for key stakeholders
- Collaborating with members of the digital team to request video, photography, or other assets needed
- Creating and scheduling paid ads to help broaden the reach of Mind & Life’s work and offerings

This role also maintains positive working relationships and participates in promoting positive culture with the Mind & Life team and broader Mind & Life community.

**Qualifications**:

- A student or recent graduate with a passion for social media content creation and digital storytelling
- At least 1 year of experience creating paid and organic content on social platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn
- Graphic design experience a plus
- Interest in contemplative practices and science, and ability to translate complex ideas and language for a lay audience
- Proficiency with online tools like Canva and Hootsuite for creating, scheduling, and monitoring content
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to manage and support our online community
- Self-starter with the ability to propose new creative campaigns and refine existing campaigns to improve our social media strategy
- Collaborative and team-oriented with an energetic and proactive attitude and approach
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to edit and proofread written copy
