Summary of Position

The Design Supervisor will serve as the leader for the California mechanical design team; hire, train and supervise the design staff. Oversee budgets and timelines for the tooling design projects. Ensure design team follows required plans, processes, and established procedures; work to improve as necessary. Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performed and the methods used by the design team.

Essential Functions
- Maintains responsibility for the management and staffing of all mechanical design function in the California offices to meet company goals & objectives related to quality, schedule compliance & budgetary controls.
- Participates in the completion of design projects whenever necessary to augment the design capacity as a lead designer or Quality checker.
- Collaborates with Ascent project management, manufacturing, quality, and accounting to develop project plans, quality plans, project technical requirements and budgets.
- Identifies customer driven changes that impact schedule and budgets. Coordinates impact with Ascent project management and key account managers as required for presentation of changes to the customer for approval and/or negotiation.
- Identifies internal issues which may impact committed schedules and develops solutions to bring project back in-line with commitments.
- Hiring and evaluating new staff members for the California mechanical design department.
- Develops training and implementation planning for continuous quality improvement to reduce rework & inefficiencies.
- Establishes the performance goals, allocates resources, and assesses policies for employees in coordination with management directives.
- Interacts with customer representatives in a professional and timely manner to build the Ascent reputation as a company that values all aspects of quality, schedule compliance and overall service.
- Acts as the driving force in the development of the work ethic, culture, and values of the California mechanical design department. Through personal example, establish the style and approach which will characterize the Company’s dealings with the marketplace.
- Any additional duties assigned by management.

Required Skills, Education & Experience
- BS and/or Master’s degree in Engineering and/or 5 to 10 years of related experience.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to problem solve and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in tooling design to support manufacturing.
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and working knowledge of MS Project.
- Proficient with CATIA V5, NX, and/or MSC Nastran.
- Has a clear understanding of quality management system with the ability to drive quality into every aspect of the engineering operations. Whether it is verbal communication with co-workers and customers, product realization or the final delivered product to the customer.
- Driven to succeed with strong sense of developing and maintaining customer relations.
- Ability to communicate technical information to nontechnical audiences both orally and in written form.
